I know. The problem is that those mysterious 4 aircraft are not listed anywhere. Every list is empty except for the list of unassigned pilots (I checked, and out of the 40 pilots in my squadron, more than 30 are currently there). From time to time, aircraft undergoing repairs appear in those lists. Also, in one of my careers (I don't remember which one exactly, maybe the F-80), I had the opposite issue: the pilots disappeared, but the aircraft assigned to them remained.
AndreiTomescu Posted July 28 Posted July 28 i'll be watchful about this happening. Truth to be told, in my Mustang campaign, i have had the feeling that 1-2 planes are missing...... Anyhow, this should be reported, as to be included in the to-do list of corrections. 1
Banzai Posted July 28 Posted July 28 3 hours ago, Viking1 said: I made this suggestion as a post mission debrief screen.. a screen where you can get mission performance and pilot status per flight. I find I want more info and I want it well organized. And this kind of depth also increases the players sense of involvement with the career. maybe we see something like it eventually. More detailed mission report would be welcome. For example I lost couple of pilots in the last missions. I don't know what happened to them. There were no enemy fighters. No reports during the mission of pilots being hit by flak. We were attacking artillery and I have suppressed/destroyed all the flak positions. I did not see any of my guys go down. When I was on the way back there were all the wingmen in the formation. I landed, finished the mission without waiting for AI to land and in the debriefing there was info that one pilot was killed. Additionally it would be nice to be able to read/view all the reports from previous missions. Sort of archive. 1

If you hear "radio static" during a mission, it most likely means that your wingman has crashed. Although I'm not sure whether it only happens when the pilot is killed, or simply whenever the aircraft goes down. About an hour ago I flew a ground attack mission, heard the same "radio static," but it turned out that the escort fighter had been shot down at that moment, while the pilot successfully bailed out with a parachute. Speaking of escorts, they fly at the same altitude as I do, even during ground attack runs, and they constantly end up under anti-aircraft fire. 1 1

By the way, as I understand it, based on a pilot's performance (or maybe other criteria?), they CAN BE recommended for an award, but the award itself will only be granted after the commander (that is, you) approves it or requests it from higher command. Pilots can also be promoted in rank. I've already promoted several of my Second Lieutenants to First Lieutenants.

I'll try to reproduce this and report ASAP. Exactly that. I'm sorry I deleted the career - next time it happens I'll take a screenshot and post it. 1
AndreiTomescu Posted July 29 Posted July 29 (edited) having several planes damaged, and being a doll with the state's property thus didn't want to scrap them and order others, i was pretty short of planes. So, i unassigned the on-duty flight, to have all planes available for strike missions against the enemy airfields. Big mistake. Well... the reds came to attack our airfield, and i was unable to scramble anybody! they did heavy damage , lost a heap of fuel and materials. Conclusion: always keep a couple of aircrafts reserved for airfield defence. You'll never now whwn you'll get some visitors ! Edited July 29 by AndreiTomescu 1

Either I wasn't looking hard enough, or something else is going on, but so far, even in my longest career (from April 4 to June 20), not a single aircraft in my squadron has been written off. They have only been lost in combat. If I remember correctly, one of the career development diaries mentioned that aircraft would have a service life or something along those lines. The "Written Off" tab in the squadron also seems to suggest that, but as I already wrote, I haven't been able to figure out how aircraft actually get "written off."

Jegirs Posted July 29 Posted July 29 After the new patch, the issue with the missing aircraft has been resolved. The aircraft that I originally started the career with has also reappeared. 1
AndreiTomescu Posted July 29 Posted July 29 also, to be noted: - the damaged aircrafts cannot be written off. i still couldn't do it. - relocation mission is possible. while presented, one has to choose it just as any other mission, assign a group (unfortunately 12 is still the limit) and fly it as any other mission. - also, now the escort flight is flying as supposed, higher and a bit back, providing cover 1
Jegirs Posted July 29 Posted July 29 (edited) I also tried assigning nose art to some aircraft before the mission, but once the mission loaded, it still wasn't there. The same was true for my own aircraft. From time to time, red stars appear on the nose of my aircraft. I don't know what determines when a new one appears, but they also appear if I select a different aircraft. At the same time, I haven't seen them on my wingmen's aircraft. Edited July 29 by Jegirs
AndreiTomescu Posted July 29 Posted July 29 (edited) now a question for you guys who have figured it out: when giving orders to wingmen, a circle small and fat, appears on the screen. What is it? kind of target aiming for the wingmen? how to use it? Edited July 29 by AndreiTomescu 1
In the wingman command menu, I found commands like "Attack My Target" or something similar, but my wingmen never seem to spot any targets, even if I'm pointing directly at the middle of an enemy convoy.
AndreiTomescu Posted July 29 Posted July 29 true, but "do like me" command works. just have to be careful not to pick my nose then !!! 😂 2

What escorts do you mean? Escort units on individual ground attack missions that you don't control? What squadron, aircraft, and exact mission type did this occur with? If you have the _gen.mission file, that would also be helpful, thanks. 🙂
Jegirs Posted July 30 Posted July 30 Unfortunately, I can't provide the mission files. Also, as far as I've noticed, after the latest patch the escort aircraft (F-51, 12th FBS) started flying higher and slightly behind our flight. Before the patch, a few days ago, they seemed to fly much closer, because I clearly remember one of my first missions where I looked back and couldn't immediately tell which aircraft were part of my flight and which ones were the escorts. If the mission files don't just store the most recent mission, but actually all the missions from the career (91 combat sorties in total, with 26 flown by me), then I'll probably have to look for them.

Yes, unfortunately it's a case where the _gen.mission file is overwritten every time a new mission is generated, so you have to grab it beforehand.
Zeus Posted July 30 Posted July 30 Is it possible to change the amount of award points that i get after completing an operation?
Voxman Posted July 31 Posted July 31 (edited) Is there an operations manual for this career mode? Looking for any detail as far as managing my pilots effectively. *just found Brigadier Fox video..... OAE Posted July 31 Posted July 31 Hi everyone, I encountered a major issue in Career Mode while transferring to a new airfield. After I successfully landed my plane, 10 of my AI squadron mates completely lost control and crashed. They did not land when I did, but instead began hitting the terrain or each other. It seems like the AI landing logic completely breaks down during these transfer missions, possibly due to bad pathfinding or messed-up landing queues at the new airfield. Has anyone else experienced this during squadron transfers? Is there a known workaround, or is this a confirmed AI bug that needs a dev fix? Thanks for any insights Quest 3, RTX 5080, 5800X3D, 64GB

I had something similar during a transfer flight; not in the career but a quick mission in the task editor. On reaching the new airfield the AI dropped their fuel tanks and just continued to fly around with no attempt to land.
