- Kill claims: In the current state it's somewhat strange when kills are credited. It's especially noticeable when flying against heavier aircraft like the B-29. Unless I kill the pilots or saw of wings/stabilizers - resulting in an immediate crash - the kills are simply ignored. Like setting the wing tanks on fire and seeing the plane go down a few minutes later gives nobody the kill. Also in the official kill counts of the squadron roster is not a single shot down B-29 despite having multiple pilots (myself included) with "confirmed" kills. The individual air victories are counted. At this state I'm unsure if any of the dedicated AI aircraft are listed (like C-47/Li-2/B-29) I need to verify that. I also wrote a report on the DC about this matter.

I think there's an issue with the simplified B-29s scoring. In the Black Thursday I've sent many down in flames but end of mission is always zero kills. in the exam intercept mission against detailed B29s, I get credit for them. The detailed B-29s are also easier to down.

That is my understanding - I gather they've put a lot of thought and work into giving that feeling: Persistent objectives between missions, persistent damage (planned this fall), and persistent need for repair and resupply of your squadron to keep it at strength - all geared towards giving a sense that every mission is potentially meaningful.

That is a nice balance, keeping historical accuracy while feeding player achievement.

Question regarding the mission type ground support, in career mode:

So, i am supposed to fly near front line and establish contact with the forward controller: done.

Afterwards the ground controller doesn't say anything, the flak is insane, so i ask for instructions via radio? or should wait for those instructions in due time? For how long?

I receive mission vector upon request, and the corresponding site is marked with red smoke (was from the start).

After successfully engaging the target, if I return in friendly controlled territory, the mission still counts as failed. Never managed to land, due to flak damage, but did belly landed a couple of times. Still mission failed.

So, what is the mission complete trigger/condition ?

Redoing the mission for testing different approaches is tedious,,since most replay mission attempts do end with crash to desktop.

But still, how are the logic/expectations/approach in this type of mission ?

What makes it successful?

I am thinking of Battle of Bulge scripted, for ex, there are similarities.

Great immersion: if you're too low, upon request of mission vector it says you can't be localised. Very nice and accurate!

But how do I complete?

I am surely missing something.

P.S. P-80, earliest period , Kimpo airfield.

My squadron has consistently better results if I mix HVAR with 500 lb bombs. Anyone else noticing this? Is there an easy way to arm my squadron section by section so I can mix it up?

And if you happen to miss the onscreen message MISSION OBJECTIVE COMPLETE how do you know you are finished? THere does not seem to be anywhere else to find this. Q for STATS does not show it and the mission briefing map does not show it.

Do you happen to have the mission file?

Pressing the escape button on your keyboard should show your current mission status.

Will be a ton of fun once the bugs are dead  🙂

I see we have a TON of historical squadron emblems for career -- but I dont see one for the 12th Fighter Bomber Group? This is it  --

RIght. so the emblem shows up on the Pilot File, but it is not selectable for the aircraft emblem in the pilots setup. Odd.

Definitely there, its the second option in the task editor and the only squadron at Suwon with F51s in 1951.

Yes, I see what you mean now, sorry about that.

I'm confused as the Foxy emblem is selectable for me for the lead aircraft... but it doesn't apply to the rest of the squadron.

Think the rest of the squadron should have it applied too - never mind I have to do that to each pilot.

Well, for me, the mission starts on the runway and ends on the desktop. In mission crash or after restart mission/end spectate. 🙂

So, what i was hoping, was to hit end mission BEFORE Crash to desktop, in order to advance. It's a wonderful mission, with a hellish flak, strong ground targets and incoming Migs, but after a dozen replays I really fell ready to move on. 😂😂😂

As I said in another thread, it's Groundhog Day with planes here. 🙂

Like the "mission_report" file? I can definitely find it. Didn't delete anything.

Yes, it's the _gen.mission file in data/missions, like with Great Battles.

Waiting for @Akephal to help me/us with a solution regarding this crashes to desktop. There are several that reported this issue on the forum, but I don't know what do our systems have in common. On Task Editor this doesn't happen. Only Career. God knows why, I tried to find solutions but to no avail.

It is the same for me with the Il-10...

Well, let's not panic. Being sooo many CTD situations, at sooo mant people, with different rigs, still must be a common cause.

At master Snipermanx recomandation i submitted info to @Akephal. Guess he's the one on the job. I;m sure they'll fix it.

Love the new music/soundtrack. It reminds me a lof of MSFS2020.

One piece of feedback on that: the fade out for the combat music feels a bit abrupt. I would suggest having a longer fade-out until you slowly stop noticing it.

let's try and narrow the search. please try to do:

career, US, P-80, earliest start, 35th FBS. first day is empty, advance to the 26th, choose yourself and other 3 guys, assign the closest "close air support" mission. should start at 6:15 am. mission load leave unchanged, except for empty wing tanks (the objective is very close).

After being in contact with XRay, the controller , you'll see a red smoke marker across the river to the north. Do your job there, try to RTB. Let's see what happens.

also fullscreen, no FSR, fps capped ingame at 80.

I would hear to see what is your load during the mission time.

in my case , the load stays at approx 40%, everything is fine, and suddenly jumps to 13-160%, screen freezers completely for 3 secs and then CTD. always there is a load jump before CTD.

Sure, I'll give it a go. But I finally have a CTD. I sent the info in to 1C. I'll try the above and see what happens.

First Run. Great results and as I was turning to exit the area some guy on the ground shot my wing off. stay tuned.

Second run. Load ingress sits around 30. Load in mission area climbs to 50 and was just under 50 half way home. This was with FSR still ON.

Attempted to finish the mission half way home and.... CTD. File attached.

I never thought I would enjoy managing a squadron, but this mini-game in the game has become quite engrossing.
Trying to keep an active mission tempo, while dealing with losses of planes and pilots, and dealing with supply issues, is fascinating.
I was hit by ground fire once, and had to bail out, fortunately I was able to keep the plane airborne long enough to get over the lines into UN territory before jumping.
Spent two days in hospital afterward. I sent the rest of the available flights out on missions while I was "recovering".

It's an interesting challenge.

Same - same. Have you noticed a spike in load just before freeze/crash?

AndreiTomescu

Maybe not in my case, but certainly NOT in your case could be insufficient hardware the cause.

Are you in so called fullscreen or windowed mode?

The file is great, but not for me, that's for @Akephal to decipher.

I've done some inquiries, it's just as @AEthelraedUnraed said:

That "load" meter is not CPU or GPU utilization. In IL-2 it represents how long the engine needs to render each frame relative to your frame budget.

So a sudden load increase could mean not only that the resources are insufficient for the frames. It could also mean the game engine is stuck on something. Am I wrong?

I would really like this sorted out ASAP. It would be a shame for such a SUPERB game to have a poor reception due to this. (It's actually a big bug, makes Career unplayable).

@BlitzPig_EL: please , tell me the exact campaign setting you chose. Since you had no CTD, I would like to reproduce your campaign, see how it goes.
