I understand that by 1951 the numbers of these kind of aircraft started to go down significantly, but MiG-15's for every mission does get repetitive. There should be sporadic encounters with La-11s and Yak-9Ps until late 1951, especially in the north-western part of the map. No idea if the career mode allows limiting plane types to certain map areas, but it would be a nice feature. 1
AndreiTomescu Posted July 28 Posted July 28 (edited) In the "El's Mustang" Career, early, I have noticed that player led missions, if they get bounced by enemy aircraft, always encounter Mig-15s, despite the action taking place much south of Mig Alley, and simulated encounters (missions flown by group without player/commander taking part) encounter enemy prop planes. The only instances I've encountered red star props were parked ones during airfield attack missions, but not were on the runway ready to scramble. Edited July 28 by AndreiTomescu 1

Not a single prop to be found other than TU-2's during bomber intercept missions and IL-10's sometimes during area patrol missions. Other props are encountered by the non-Commander involved simulated encounters on a regular basis.
AndreiTomescu Posted July 28 Posted July 28 Probably they fear us so much, they only sent the mighty Mig to counter!! 🙂

Got shot down on my first mission to intercept bombers (by a Mig 15), safely ejected over friendly territory, had to spend time in hospital (2 days), and after it said I was ready for active duty I could not assign myself a new plane. Sent the rest of the squadron on several sorties over several days, and still could not fly again. So I just deleted that campaign. I purchased a flight sim to fly. I enjoy the squadron management more than I thought, but If I can't fly, I'm out. I will just resume my F51 career. I had this issue too with a Yak-9 career; my plane was damaged and went for repairs, but my commander was then left without a plane, and for some reason I was unable to assign one. Probably a bug to be tackled in the next update, but a bit of a shame as I couldn't continue this career.
AndreiTomescu Posted July 28 Posted July 28 @robzerg So you had available plane in the unassigned pool, but was unable to "replace aircraft" command for you, right? I'll try to reproduce this and report ASAP.
Valis Posted July 28 Posted July 28 Enjoying my F-51 career; not enjoying losing so many pilots/planes to mid-air collisions. Agreed on the MiG menace, too. Have yet to encounter either Yak or La during a mission, but it's early days I suppose.
Av8orDave Posted July 28 Posted July 28 This was always a thing in the WW2 Great Battles series career mode. You’d see only certain types. If you were flying a P-47, you’d really only see 190s. If you were flying a Mustang, you’d really only see 109s. And so on…
actionhank Posted July 28 Posted July 28 Since I haven't been able to get Il-2 Korea yet, I've been curious if you are able to edit the profiles of other members of your flight? I was thinking it would be fun to re-name some of the pilots in my squad after my friends (bonus points if I can swap pictures and edit their profiles) and then see which of my friends survived my campaign.
BlitzPig_EL Posted July 28 Posted July 28 I lost two pilots and F51s last night. They collided while stooging about waiting to land.
Viking1 Posted July 28 Posted July 28 (edited) 21 hours ago, AndreiTomescu said: So, for a plane to be assigned, it has to be on the "unassigned reserve" area, that's the next to last tab, down low. to get a plane there you either receive it from orders, and it goes there, or you deactivate (yes, really) a plane from other pilot. To get a plane from that unassigned reserve pool, you have to click on a pilot's picture (yours, for ex) and select replace aircraft, and choose a plane from there. (unassigned reserve). but it works only if you have some aircrafts in the unassigned reserve. Took me almost 8 missions to figure this out. Unfortunately the GUI is sometimes not intuitive, which is going to generate a lot of SUPPORT requests on release. I think the Devs are aware so maybe they will add some cues to make the process more obvious. Its awkward having to move a wounded pilot and his broken plane out of the flight line. Seems to me that should be automatic then we decide what to do with him and how to fill the empty spot. Edited July 28 by Viking1 1

No, just skin assignments. 1

AndreiTomescu Posted July 28 Posted July 28 Overall, i find this new game-in-game, the squadron/group management awesome. After 1-2 missions flown i get really tired, but i would like to stay hooked a bit still. So, this is perfect for. My older son says it's like FIFA team manager, only with planes. well, it's a great addition. The only thing i miss here in Korea vs GB is that map at the end of a mission, where one could see flightpath, air victories, ground victories fallen mates and such. now we have a mission report, but with no map. Or am I missing something ?
Banzai Posted July 28 Posted July 28 My squadron got moved from Chungju to Seoul airfield. There was no relocation flight. I am not sure if this is a thing in the career. If not it would be nice to have it as an option. Another suggestion. I was awarded the Medal of Honor, and there was no additional announcement other than the standard line about award received in the daily report. I missed it and found out later when I checked my pilot's file. Getting the highest possible award should be a bigger deal, with separate screen with a picture of the award ceremony for example. 1 1

Yes, in Career Mode there is a ferry flight mission when your unit is transferred to another airfield. However, as far as I can tell, it doesn't seem to be fully implemented yet. There is only one such mission available on the map, and in it you can select a maximum of 12 pilots out of 24. I launched the mission, hesitated during takeoff, and bent the propeller on my F-51. I immediately ended the mission, and it was marked as a failure. After that, I skipped two days, and my unit had already arrived at the new location (Seoul). In GB, if you fail a relocation mission, you have to fly the transfer again later the same day (one time I even had to make the flight completely alone). Also, in my F-51 career I have 24 aircraft listed in my inventory, but I can only actually use 20 of them. The other four slots are simply empty. That's disappointing, because I'm not sure whether, even if this issue is fixed in a future patch, I'll still have to start a new career for the fix to take effect.
BlitzPig_EL Posted July 28 Posted July 28 Do you have enough pilots for those unassigned aircraft? My squadron now is at full compliment, 24 available for flight operations.
Jegirs Posted July 28 Posted July 28 I definitely have enough pilots, there are 24 of them. I just don't have 4 aircraft, even though the game shows that 24 are ready for sortie. Also, those 4 aircraft are not listed at the bottom under "Unassigned" either.

Banzai Posted July 28 Posted July 28 Thanks. I must have missed this mission on the map. If I am not mistaken there was no info that the squadron is due for relocation. I think it would be better to have this type of mission appear automatically, similar to unplanned missions. It was easy to miss.

I find I want more info and I want it well organized. And this kind of depth also increases the players sense of involvement with the career. maybe we see something like it eventually. gord Posted July 28 Posted July 28 one nice quality of life feature would be some sort of awards screen. it's a pain to have to go through your entire squadron to see who has what award already. on a side note i had an issue last night in my Yak9 career where two injured pilots i put into reserve disappeared from the roster screen the next day. they were still counted towards my pilot total but they were gone and could not access them. 1

If you look at my suggested Mission Debrief screen you'll see I was also integrating awards. I agree this should be easily available somewhere. 1 1
