JG14_Jagr Posted August 25 Posted August 25 In the Combat Box server there is a limitation on camping, I think its 1Km altitude and 5Km in radius. I dropped my drop tanks in that zone and got booted for bombing. I'm assuming the tanks are considered ordinance? Maybe can be adjusted simply on the server side or the game itself?
Fabry_ASW19 Posted August 26 Posted August 26 UN vs DRK win ratio, I’m not sure if it is just limited to the time frame I usually play but it seems like Red forces are very much at a number disadvantage. They might have an advantage on the Air to Air thanks to the ‘15bis. But when it comes to winning battles it’s the mud movers that do the job, and all UN aircrafts have tremendous Air to Ground capability, the IL10 can’t really match. A couple of time I joined on the red side to try balancing number but we have decent amount of Discord blue group friends enjoy to fly as a team so I’m not flying red any longer. I would really like to see everyone in Combat Box having a good time for many years and I believe having a fair chance to win as a team is huge component for that. The challenge to play against a balanced human team is important as well. As far as Aircraft set goes I don’t see anything good coming for the red (I hope I’m wrong) so this might become even more of a problem when F9F and F4U will be introduced. Maybe having a more asymmetrical Scoring favoring the Redfor might bring a more fair gameplay? What’s your opinion?
Leifr Posted August 26 Posted August 26 There is nothing fair or symmetrical about the Korean air war, that's just how it is and frankly I don't think servers should create environments where those limits are tested. @Sketch has an awesome looking scenario coming up this Friday though; check out the picture below.

Usually the MiG-15s stroll around the no-kill zones of the blue air bases far in the south and try to kill every ground-pounder just 3 minutes after take-off. So I am happy if there is an imbalance between Blue and Red forces which favors Blue as I fly nearly exclusively fighter-bomber missions. And the guys from our group who fly the F-86 are usually no help as they very rarely could kill a MiG-15. Here the Blue side is on a big disadvantage, the MiG-15 is too good in the game.
BoeingVertol Posted August 27 Posted August 27 (edited) Joined yesterday, hmm red side needs a few pilots, I will help balance the game out and join them. Spawn in, takeoff, engaged almost directly after takeoff by F86. Vulching player is autokicked for breaking the rules and rejoins immediately. Yep, this is exactly why I don't play PvP, leave server. Every airfield now has 6 AA guns, if you see them appears it means enemy aircraft is near (also look for notification about enemy aircraft near airfield). Just don't takeoff until AA guns disappears. But, yes, small (or even not small) ban after autokick for vulching would be nice, so player could think a little about breaking rules.
Haluter Posted August 28 Posted August 28 Thanks for reporting this. We confirmed that IL-2 records dropped external fuel tanks using the same event as bomb releases, which caused the false kick. We’ve prepared a fix that ignores these events when the aircraft is carrying no bombs. The limitation is that, for aircraft carrying both bombs and drop tanks, the server log does not identify which item was released, so those mixed loadouts can’t yet be distinguished reliably. 1
kmo1619 Posted August 28 Posted August 28 I am guilty of an airfield attack yesterday. to my apologize i expected it was okay, cause in CB GB airfields were no safe space and instead of reading the whole rules i expected them to be the same as in CB GB . sorry for that. actually hit a Hangar, so not to blame for the runway crater... 1
ATAG_Ezzie Posted August 28 Posted August 28 Hi Combat Box designers, Firstly, a big thanks for your work on the current maps in rotation. I'm only a small numbers of sorties in flying the F-84 in ground attack mode and am enjoying the challenge of flying to/shooting/bombing/rocketing the various tgts you have created. The map looks great even on my low end system and navigating over the mountains deep inside NK territory is a fun challenge. I just have a quick question about mobile targets and the icons that appear on the map. On the map i was just on (advance to the north maybe) the target i went after was a mobile infantry target in the north of the map. The tgt on the map had an icon inside a kinda/sorta large 'rectangular' type box. I found the icon location - the smoke was helpful - so I attacked and missed the targets located here. Next time I'll get em.... Are there other mobile targets located inside the rectangular box that i should go and look for along the roads / rivers? Or are the targets located just in the tgt location icon area? Or is this secret map designer knowledge and we have to figure this out for ourselves? Thanks Ezzie 1

Thanks Ezzie To add to this on Combat box, not many ground targets in those boxes Ezzie is talking about. A pile of smoke, 4 small ground flares and a single tank on the road. Then nothing for miles. Any plans to update to add more targets or is everything still early stages? Just, as a groundpounder it's a bit stale atm when one is loaded for bear. 1 I7 12700k-5070TI-32GB-49"Odyssey VKBGunfighter/Stecs/TMpeds/BoeingPit/Delanpro

ATAG_Ezzie Posted August 29 Posted August 29 Thanks for the reply Haluter. Hope your testing finds the sweet spot re objects / player numbers etc. Ezzie 1
Whittle Posted September 1 Posted September 1 I'd also like to say thanks for making this server! CB's rule-set, mission style, and mission duration were my favourite in GB and now in Korea also. I've restarted my patreon sub after a break from GB, and suggest other regulars do the same! 1 2
ATAG_Ezzie Posted September 2 Posted September 2 Another big thanks to the CB designers for a fun sortie I flew just now. It was OP Pushrod and there was only 3 of us on the server (2 blue and 1 red). But I still had a very satisfying sortie as follows. I was tasked with attacking DPRK forces located on the northern bank of the Yalu. After taking off with full fuel - including tip tanks - and 2 x 500 and 4 x 250s I proceeded in my F-84 north to cross the Yalu at the eastern edge of the AO. Shortly after crossing the Yalu I encountered light but accurate AAA and took moderate damage to my port tip tank and port wing structure. My F-84 was still flyable so I proceeded to engage the tgts protected by the AAA with 1 x 500 and scored hits on trucks and other targets. As the AAA was still effective I relocated to other targets nearby and proceeded to accurately employ my remaining ordnance to good effect. Conscious of my fuel state i left the AO to RTB. As a I crossed the Yalu a sliver swept wing fighter crossed my nose at a range of less than 1 km and turned onto my long 6. I was unsure of the ID but assumed hostile and proceeded to jettison my tip tanks and dove to the deck. The fighter - almost certainly a MIG-15 - proceeded to chase me thru the steep valleys and hills south of the Yalu for about 5 mins. The F-84's rear viz made it challenging to gain/maintain tally on the enemy aircraft but i was able to observe the enemy close to within firing range despite my efforts. The MIG fired several bursts, most of which missed, as i turned/climbed/dived but several rounds found their mark. Eventually the attacks stopped and I was free to RTB. Intel subsequently advised that the pilot had either run out of fuel or flamed his engine out and died when he ejected at very low altitude. I had no idea where I was after the 5 mins of low level combat but was able to use the NDB (?) to get the direction to my base. I made a straight in landing however my stb tyre shredded itself during my landing and was on fire and I almost l lost control during the roll out. Once the aircraft slowed to a stop the engine caught fire - perhaps the fuel was ignited by my still on fire stb wheel - and I ended the mission with my rear mirror full of flame (I had forgotten the the key binds for a ground egress from the aircraft and didnt want to burn to death while i looked them up so just ended the mission). I didnt check to see how many tgts i destroyed but my total score was 270 I think. All in all a very satisfying - and lucky - sortie despite the very low server numbers. Thanks again CB for hosting these fun maps/missions. Ezzie 4
Ramstein Posted September 5 Posted September 5 I just got a d3d error in Korea loading. and found this: FAILED load: GRAPHICS\LANDSCAPE\TREE_SHADOW.BMP (graphics\textures\common\TREE_SHADOW.BMP) , in the tex.log
ATAG_Ezzie Posted September 5 Posted September 5 Another fun/satisfying sortie on CB I was tasked with attacking an airfield (name escapes me) and took off in my trusty F-84 with 2 x 500 and 4 x 250s. After a low level ingress overwater and then overland i conducted 2 x passes on the airfield with hits on the tent city located near the runway. I egressed at low level south and then RTB'd. Intel (the fight recording video) advised me that unbeknownst to me the airfield was defended by 1 x MIG who tried to engage me. Luckily I had followed my SOP (max 2 passes on airfields) and he didnt get me. Interestingly it seems I was able to out run the MIG-15 (even though i still had 2 x empty tip tanks) on the deck even though he jettisoned his tanks during the chase. Not sure how that happened as i thought the MIG was faster than an F-84 on the deck. Good to know...... Thanks again CB Ezzie 1 2

I have never heard siren at the very beginning of the mission, even when 3-4 planes spawns at once, so I think it's sounding only when enemy plane is near (like 10-15 km) airfield.

No, it's sounding every single time for the last 3-4 days when I spawn. No enemies around.
