I also have the bug where nighttime lights only render strongly in one eye, and not the other.

And I wanna give a +1 on the idea that the menu needs to be fixed in place and quite a bit farther away for VR comfort.

Waiting for the patch is a good strategy.  I am flying a Quest 3 and it drops from 70 fps to in the 40's when I bank over a village.

It's the same story with Pimax Super, was doing reasonably well with a Crystal Light thinking it should do similar, but that is not the case, no matter how much one dials it back.

Yet in both other games I fly it shreds the light and smokes it with even higher settings, one of those is great battles.

Turning DLSS or FSR or any sort of scaling on should be a net benefit, but that isn't the case at all.  They all cause massive benchmark hits.

Something wrong when it comes to the upper end high res screens.

How I fixed my lousy VR performance, deleted the startup.cfg file, let it build a new one and started over fresh with every setting set new.

I think the settings are bugged and if you do a lot of testing it starts pooching things.  Night and day difference, the upper settings are performers again, there is no comparison in levels of performance.  I'd recommend you do your testing, find what settings you want and can run, if any hint of trouble purge it and set a new one directly to those last good settings and go fly from there.  I did change VR headsets and that could have caused some problems in the settings, maybe wouldn't refresh and update some of the entries?  After multiple settings switching trying to get some measure of performance the Land Detail blanked out and was no longer accessible, first real clue something was wrong.

Very different behaviors in some of the graphics settings prior compared to after the file reset, but the FPS way up, the flying smoother, still can't crank everything to the max, but it's far closer and looking good.  Went from stuck in low graphical settings to get anywhere close to 90 fps to now running ultra steady with 85-90 frames over most of the map, cities still no way.  Have no idea what changed, but it worked to reset everything dumping and rebuilding that file.

Ups. Yes, I had some positive text also with my screenshot above. Forgot to save probably.

The settings shown work for me quite good now. Looks good. Stable 72Hz.

Had to lower resolution to 2x3000x3500 which is somewhat supersampling the CrystalLite still. Indirect Lighting unfortunately ( because it looks really cool ) costs a lot of fps and also MSAAx4 is too expensive. But at least I can flY now without beeing angry 😉

Big cities? Bloody Thursdays? No, but … okay.

Thanks for the idea - I'll do some more testing.

Alrighty done some testing at most speeds and angles, and the autoclimd just does not work.  No other settings appear to affect it. Re-mapped and the standard LCTRL+A does not work.  Level autopilot works flawlessly.

The issue is VR.  Pimax Dream Air SLAM version.

In 2D the auto climb/descend works fine.  In VR it is completely disabled. I have tried:

OpenXR

OpenVR

OpenVR Pimax Evo Open Port enabled with SBoys3 driver.

Can anyone suggest a fix?

This helped getting me more FPS. It also caused my snap zoom to go ultra slow which is highly annoying.

I feel like I'm squinting (Quest) in VR now after 003. Do you feel the same way?

There's a slider for zoom speed in the main menu view settings, I like around 10 to 15%, just right slowing it down instead of a snap.  Apparently that setting is stored in the .cfg file too.  Under the camera settings, top left.

Okay, I've checked the IPD settings and have some thoughts. First, I'd like to thank you for finally working with Quest and OpenXR after patch 003. They do have an effect now. The image shifts (right eye and left eye), creating a larger world, and therefore allows you to enlarge cockpits, which are too small in EA (many people have reported this).

Unfortunately, the new IPD + and - modification doesn't work the same way as in the IL-2 GB. I've also tested it now, and interestingly, in the IL-2 GB, I have IPD set to zero and the cockpits have the correct value. Adjusting the IPD in the IL-2 GB also changes the world size, but the viewpoint doesn't change (I don't feel like the image shifts). Unfortunately, the new implementation in the IL-2 Korea works in such a way that the world grows or shrinks, but it's as if the image itself shifts. This means it still looks essentially natural at IPD 0, but you can't adjust anything further because it creates a disproportion in the image, and at some point you see everything double, which can be a real headache. In the IL-2 GB, it works fine; there's no such effect, but here it is, and unfortunately, it doesn't solve the issue of cockpits being too small. I understand that a slightly different approach has been adopted now, and the IPD is supposed to more closely reflect the actual IPD of the eye, not the scale itself. So could you take a look at this again? I've noticed that for me, the cockpit size at IPD -6 is already OK, but unfortunately, the image is significantly distorted. At 0, it's OK, but here again, the scale is too small. So, I can choose between a cockpit that's too small or being cross-eyed (because that's how I feel).

crosseyed.gif

Perhaps we could simply add an additional slider for World Scale in the options (like in MSFS) or provide some keyboard shortcuts for this? I'll add that the IPD works fine in the IL-2 GB (as in DCS), but here we have a slightly different effect, which brings with it a different problem, as you can see. I'll also add that physical IPD adjustment from headset (at least in the Quest) doesn't help, because with pancake lenses you have sharpness across the entire surface. I played around with the physical adjustment knobs, but it didn't help, so it's still just a software issue in the simulator. Of course, the third solution is to increase the size of the world/cockpits in VR (OpenXR Toolkit showed me that it is ok at 113%) if its possible. Please take another look at this topic. Thank you. ❤️

The image is really very blurry at medium and long distances, even with 4X MSAA, Detail of the distant landscape 4x, View distance 150 km, sharpness enabled. It’s very difficult to take a photo whilst wearing a VR headset. In reality, when you’re wearing the VR headset, the aeroplane isn’t blurred – it’s just the ground that is. It’s really poor compared to DCS. On the DCS, the image is sharp at both close and long range.

Reading patch notes, I don't believe they tackle the blurred textures issue.

...it looks really that blurry inside your headset ( landscape ) ?

That's weird and something is wrong with your setting then.

While I cannot compare it to DCS, I can say that landscape in my Headset looks way better than these screenshots.

Could you share your settings ?

The phone struggles to focus, which makes the image look blurrier than it actually is.

But in reality, it really isn’t a pretty sight. On the other hand, the view from underneath the aeroplane, at close range, is superb.

Sorry about my English – I’m using a translator.

Ah - un ami francais - bonjour 😉 !

Strange, I have almost same settings.

The different ones:

  • distance horizon 100km instead of 150
  • visibility pilot body ON
  • cabin reflections NORMAL
  • shadow quality MEDIUM
  • Sharpening DEACTIVATED ( I do this in Pimax Play )
  • HDR OFF

I don't understand why I'm getting this result.

Which GPU driver are you using ?

Try this. Of course it's hard to say what to do with these photos, because they are photos from a gogle image, but mine is quite ok, not perfect, but but acceptable.

The latest Nvidia, update was not long ago. Sorry, I am not at my GamingPC right now to have a look for version number.

What PimaxPlay settings do you use? ( image quality ).

Image Quality 1.0

The VR headset settings aren’t the cause of the problem, as it looks great at close range.

Yeah, just asked to be sure.

Out of curiosity: How is your fps with 1.0 ? Do you use Smart smoothing or fixed 72/90 Hz?

No Smart Smoothing, 90Hz, 52 fps in solo flight.

Maybe the problem is me. I reinstalled IL-2 Great Battles and I have the same issue. I'm comparing it to my DCS, which looks great in VR; that's probably why I don't like Korea. Visually, I don't like what I see on IL-2 and Korea in VR.
