If you are playing the Steam version (if not, ignore the rest), I had this also.  Working through a lot of trial and error with Chat-gpt, it identified the issue as a Pimax Play launcher issue and said that starting through Steam was the appropriate work around (setting the Steam Launcher to OpenXR).  Based on old experience, I was concerned that the Pimax Play settings wouldn't take effect when starting through Steam, but also determined that has been corrected, so launching through Steam now keeps Pimax Play settings.

Anyway, that worked for me and I not had any problems with it reverting to OpenVR for the ingame settings.  I have also reported it to Pimax so they can investigate if the problem is on their end.

I have found that if you do not set your reselution the same as you monitor then upscaling is greyed out. Might be it??

I find this strange: 72hz with fps below 72, a lot of stuttering 90hz with fps below 90, almost no stuttering....!!!??? ( In dcs it's the opposite)

I really thought that 72hz is easier to run.

I also experience a micro stuttering in 72hz that is absent in 90hz. And, the game looks so much better in 90hz.

 

It doesn't necessarily mean that 90 Hz is "faster"; it could simply be that reprojection/ASW works better with 90→45 in this particular engine.

This is not a word game. Maybe it‘s a problem of automatic translation - but ‚shut up‘ in english is quite a rude term.

Change your desktop screen res, some of them have incompatibility issues with up scaling.  It doesn't know your in VR, only understands the desktop.

On my game anything below a 1440 x 1080 res grays it out, and above that one which works they are kind of hit and miss.  You can still run a smaller setting than your native desktop without issues.  Just have to find one that works.

Also make sure that in NVIDIA settings that you do not have vsync enabled. That screwed me up for a long time.

Yup, this was it.

Thanks for the help fellas. Ive got some settings dialed in and the game looks great at a stable 72hz.....

until im over cities, or its cloudy, or there is a lot of other activity going on. Then FPS tanks to like 40 something.

@Dash,Polder - Big THANK YOU for the advice for cropping the view in my Pimax Super 50PPD.  I used the brand new Pimax Play 2.03 cropping feature (I will eventually try EVO too) at 15% Horizontal & 20% Vertical that has made a big difference in getting smooth (mostly) 72hz performance with good visuals with my experimentation this weekend. 

Plus, now my wife can blame you and @von_Tom if I decide to try out the Dream Air OLED since it's reduced FOV won't be an issue for me anymore! 🙃🫡 Seriously though, I don't miss the extra FOV considering the difference the cropping is making for me getting my VR dialed in.  Visuals are the most important to me as I mostly SP in sims.  FYI-that cropping put me at around 110 degrees horizontal.

Pretty sure there were some optimizations in all those recent patches, got a new higher sweet spot far as frame times bench marking, can run 89% res now for the best and smoothest frame time benchmark line, up from 86%, so they're making progress.  It's getting very close to where some of us could start switching over to 90hz, but not quite there yet.  If they could do another 10% efficiency gains 90hz would be feasible for competition grade PvP use.

Yes, I can use 90 hz. Didn't go on early access.
Less stuttering when it goes down to 45 fps.

I found that SSW always on doesn't stutters when SSW kicks in . If I remember correctly I read that beta VD version solved that stutter on SSW activation. I would use SSW with 120hz if I could have 60 FPS in the worst scenario, more past frames = better reprojection. I believe using turbo mode from a VectorXR would smooth frame times - less stutters and it should work with SSW on always enabled.

Hardware advancements help, Pimax has an all new smoothing rewrite in the works, always a bonus for us having a bigger tool box.  It took some time but they did get their inside out tracking pretty much bulletproof. 

I'm really happy at this point and flying mostly, the only reason I still tinker with settings and combos is I enjoy puzzles.

Pimax should become now they have worst motion reprojection. The best reprojection has Valve - Motion smoothing,  second VD - SSW , third is Meta  with ASW.

Would you mind posting your settings? Pimax Play/Evo - in game ect....No rush but it would be good to see where you have landed

I heard praises for steam repro several times, but for me it has picture tearing and looks slow (pimax with sboys3 driver)  😞

Pimax repro on other hand sometimes starts with double picture - hmd restart helps with that. After restart it  is fast and reliable.

Всем привет!! Друзья подскажите!! Поставил себе VD та что по USB можно играть но как запустить игру по VD не понимаю. Связь между моим Q3 и компьютером по  USB есть.  Запускаю игру  с компьютера и ни чего не происходит... Игру покупал на сайте разработчика. Нужно ли ставить Steam??  P.S   Иконки в Quest3 в наушниках VD внизу как я понял это выход на рабочий стол не активные... ПОМОГИТЕ!!!

It's because the latency is lower with 90hz. When you are using ASW at 72hz, you are getting the latency corresponding to 72/2 = 36 fps. That's 1/36 = 28ms of latency just from the framerate. With that amount of latency, you are much more likely to get head turning jitters. And even though your display updates at 72fps, ASW can only predict headset and controller movement. So every object in the game, in practice, still renders at 36 fps, which makes them look much more laggy and streaky than with 90 or 120hz.

With that CPU you should run Il-2 on the first 8 cores and everything else on the last 8 cores.

Actually, what I wrote above might not be entirely true for you, since the 13900k only has hyper-threading on the performance cores. The key thing is that you need to run il2series.exe on the performance cores only, and everything else on the efficiency cores.
