Bring in the evolving plane set that came in right up to the late 50's maybe even early 60's, Use the Korean peninsula and keep improving it That gives the same problem as doing Vietnam, that the complexity of the planes and rockets ramps up a lot. 1
KillerBee Posted September 9 Posted September 9 Ok, 3+ pages about everything but the Dev Blog. I’m not saying Pacific WW2 and Vietnam aren’t hot-button issues, but I do think this Dev Blog is not the place. Time to move on. 1 1

These sorts of assertions of anything post korea being too complex reminds me of the conversations had in war thunder forums a decade ago.

Yes hence me recounting how the very same thing happened with that other franchise. They were adamant that post korea was never going to happen until it did.

They'd probably have to create a whole new game engine for Vietnam... so not going to happen. Matthew 6:21, "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
Valis Posted September 9 Posted September 9 A historical & hypothetical scenario could be 1950's Europe centered around Germany. Loads of first generation jets to play with - Sabres and MiGs obviously, but also Thunderjets/Streaks, Vampires, Canberras, Beagles, Ouregans, Mysteres....etc. And the map can form the basis of the inevitable return to WW2. 2
Kaenzdhi Posted September 9 Posted September 9 (edited) The futur dynamic campaign would be a lot more interesting with a scenario like vietnam (with red, blue fighters and choppers...)than PTO (with sea.. and sea.. and sea....). Edited September 9 by Kaenzdhi 1
Captain_Trips Posted September 9 Posted September 9 (edited) Or Taiwan Crisis. Could be prescient soon. Would be an excuse to add a Mig-17. https://history.state.gov/milestones/1953-1960/taiwan-strait-crises Edited September 9 by Captain_Trips 1

So...you basically want the the Suez Crisis then ! Lol !! Westland Wyvern.... ooooh, British and French Carriers............ 1 1
Captain_Trips Posted September 10 Posted September 10 IF they had Huey's, I'd say heck ya! But if I never see another radar display or MFD again, it will be too soon.
PaperPilot Posted September 15 Posted September 15 (edited) This has seemed to turn into a wishlist - and without my involvement! Edited September 15 by PaperPilot 1
gecko Posted September 15 Posted September 15 Geeze guys, leave the jet-powered alternate history to DCS. We don't need two sims doing that when there are so many earlier historical scenarios that would be left undone. The world of pure gunfighters and solid history is where Il-2 belongs. I hope they continue to lean in to larger scale missions and believable single-player interactions as they seem to be trying to go for in Korea. I can't wait to see what that looks and feels like from the cockpit of a Panther launching from a carrier. 3 8
Lusekofte Posted September 15 Posted September 15 I just got to reinstall GB. A bomber dlc. Now I seen that. 😳 Not expecting this in my lifetime This is great
TP_Bunster Posted September 16 Posted September 16 (edited) Hmmm, Battle of Britain might not be as exciting an option as everyone thinks it is. Mission types are quite limited really:- LW - take off from France in fighters or bombers, form up, long flight over the Channel, bomb targets, avoid RAF, land back at base RAF - scramble in Spitfires or Hurricanes, be directed to enemy aircraft, attack, land. Repeat many times in a day. I think that this could become a little repetitive after a while. To make it more interesting, you might need to introduce Wellingtons, Hampdens, Blenheims, Defiants, for the RAF so we could do early war bombing runs ? I wouldn't say no to BoB, but id rather pay for theatres that haven't really been done very much. Especially in the Korea new engine 🙂 Malta, Burma, North Africa, Anglo-Iraq (1941), Battle of France (1940), Italy (1943), Banff Strike Wing, etc.. Quite a few other options. Malta and North Africa get my vote S! Bunster Edited September 16 by TP_Bunster

BlitzPig_EL Posted September 16 Posted September 16 Well, while we are back doing the speculation game, I will throw these two out for consideration. North Africa, starting with the early days, 112 Squadron transitioning from Gladiators to Tomahawks. AVG/CBI, starting with the Christmas raids on Rangoon by the Japanese, being defended by the AVG in Hawk 81s and 67 Squadron RAF in Buffalos. 2

I love the suggestions, as it gives me an insight to what either is likely or what people what which could make things likely in the future, but we have to get back on topic before we get this shut down. Until further notice, to battle! Edited September 16 by PaperPilot
AEthelraedUnraed Posted September 17 Posted September 17 I make a case for the following map: Yes, it's large (roughly 500*1200km), but 4/5ths of it is water so the land surface is more or less equal to that of the Korea map. It would provide, IMO, the ideal transition between the Korean War and the Pacific, where the Devs have said they'll go next. With this single map, you could do three distinctive battles: Early Korean war / Pusan perimeter. Re-uses aircraft from the IL2:K planeset. Bombing of Japan and naval action around Kyushu. Re-uses the F-51, F4U and B-29. Introduces late-war Japanese fighters/interceptors like the Ki-84, Ki-100 and J2M. Battle of Okinawa. Site of both heavy ground attacks by US Navy F4Us, F6Fs and TMBs, as well as of major (albeit mostly uneffective) IJAAF/IJNAS action by Ki-84s, Zeros, and unique aircraft such as the Ohka+Betty combo. And yes, I'm aware that it's very unlikely that they have planned anything similar to this, but it would still be a rather nice map 🙂 5
Akira Posted September 17 Posted September 17 I hope PTO is next on the table,Solomon Islands or Battle of the Coral sea. P.s please not again 109s, spits or yaks...im tired boss! 2 1

It would add a lot of possible content to Korea that we cannot do on the current map. The current map is fine for many things, but it also excludes 1/2 of the conflict without Pusan, Taegu and southwestern Japan. I would hope to see it cover north of the 38th parallel though, otherwise we will never be able to make historic campaigns with the F84. Other than the plane set and 1 Carrier, we still don’t know what DO will include. 2 Ryzen 7 7800X3D l 32GB DDR5-6000 l RX 7900 XTX 24GB - AMD Adrenalin V.26.6.4 l HP Reverb G2 I Windows 11 Home

It would make a lot of sense, especially if you take the top third of the map in my post (the top till just south of Fukuoka). It's the one major area from the Korean War that is missing. But purely on the basis that they haven't announced such a thing yet, I'm going to assume it won't be in the DLC. Unfortunately.
Mainstay Posted September 17 Posted September 17 I would personal love a proper BOB on a new engine and not the existing IL2BOX one, im done with that one. And for the love of god get the Dornier Do-17 and the Do-217 in that version 😉 1 1
