Panzerlang Posted July 24 Posted July 24 I tested it on my Beta copy and it works (deleting the startup.cfg), almost zero drop in FPS over cities. Gigabyte Aorus Elite Mobo. No mods. AMD 9800X3D CPU. AndreiTomescu Posted July 24 Posted July 24 damn. done Polder's magic stuff, bu didn't delete the startup.cfg file. the diference was there, but not wow. Will do this also tonight. Thx, guys! P.S. since this is real magic, it should be presented full steps, in a row. For everybody to enjoy.
Av8orDave Posted July 24 Posted July 24 Deleted startup.cfg, didn't see much difference, if any. I guess I was able to finish a mission and exit without a CTD, so there's that.
Voxman Posted July 24 Posted July 24 I deleted the startup.cfg file and it seems to have made some differences. One thing I've noticed is that my "snap to max" view, that I have set on a button goes slow to the max view, then back out slow...really strange. Any suggestions to make it snap quickly to Max as it was previously set? Computer: AMD 7800x3D, Nvidia 5070Ti, 64Gb DDR5-6000. Input devices: Virpil Aeromax Flightstick; Virpil VMAX Throttle, Charlie Rudder. Varjo Aero.
Dash,Polder Posted July 24 Posted July 24 My hunch is data from ones VR headset is stored from the initial setup and building of this file, and if you go about changing resolutions, modes, or switch to a different FOV if your HMD has that capability the file doesn't update itself creating some game operational output conflicts.
TCW_Brzi_Joe Posted July 24 Posted July 24 1 hour ago, Voxman said: "snap to max" Thats vr_zoom_speed , set it 1 for instant zoom. 1
Dash,Polder Posted July 24 Posted July 24 You can set that in settings under camera with a slider, or manually in the startup.cfg, top section. vr_zoom_speed = 0.10438 That's slider at 10%.

Those two will also affect the depth of how far the menu appears from you perception wise.
MiGCap Posted July 24 Posted July 24 What do I have to do? I removed the file and the only reaction was that the game didn’t start anymore. 🤷🏼

New buildings and elements have been added, but I still have a noticeable FPS drop. I've seen positive posts, but they're probably not about VR, but rather 2D. Is Seoul kinda the major FPS killer for others as well. Been getting a solid 79 frames since .03 and then had my first mission over Seoul last night and the frames plummeted to 20-29 FPS. only time i've seen that happen.

Then just adjust settings to your liking again. ---- On a different note, i was playing with the cockpit camera speed settings, set them all up to 100 for speed and 0 for inertia. I assumed this would not apply to VR bc of head tracking, but it feels a bit snappier now. Is this placebo? Did anyone try this? 1 AMD Ryzen 5800X3D | Nvidia RTX 4090 | 32 GB DDR4 | nVME SSD | VR headset: Pimax Dream Air SLAM

I would have to test in Korea, but in some other VR sims "inertia" is the perceptible difference in your body/head's inertia vs the aircraft when maneuvering/buffeting/etc rather than something being applied to the orientation of your head. I think some titles call the setting "Sense of Flight" or other descriptors too
GiftGruen Posted July 24 Posted July 24 Well, I also tried the snake oil approach: Defender Exception + deleting startup.cfg While I indeed experience some placebo happineess … Pjöngjang still stutters. Seoul probably will also, so … But in general I am quite okay now with the gaming experience so will just care more for missions and so on and not so much for hunting performance. You may want to save the input folder just in case, but it kept my joystick setting, so maybe it is not necessary Edited July 24 by Koziolek 1
MiGCap Posted July 24 Posted July 24 Thank You, @Jade_Monkey and @Koziolek. By the way, I save the input folder anew after every tiny change. 😊 1
YoYo Posted July 24 Posted July 24 (edited) Out of curiosity, I deleted the startup.cfg and allowed it to regenerate. But no, gentlemen... it doesn't work. It's not some magic trick. It simply restores the rather poor graphics settings, re-enables the "helpers" option, and reverses the camera zoom settings. Also removes the 28000 and 28100 multiplayer ports. Below is a screenshot of the default settings if anyone wants to restore the zoom settings (the first 2 lines). This has essentially no effect on FPS. Seoul continued to experience FPS drops, and that's all there is to it. BTW. It also cleared the OpenXR/VR settings and SteamVR enabled for me, even though I'm not using it. Enabling or_enable to 2 in startup.cfg solved the problem. Edited July 24 by YoYo 1 Home cockipt: GPU RTX5090, CPU i7 13900, RAM 64Gb. | Webmaster of yoyosims.pl. VR flying only.

I'll get back to you on Seoul, not tried it there yet. But anywhere else with large amounts of buildings the FPS would drop significantly. Now I'm seeing a steady 50-ish. Panzerlang Posted July 24 Posted July 24 Seoul performs the same, no FPS drop. Weirdly though (Scramble mission), soon as I pulled my nose up towards the bombers (me in the Sabre) I saw the FPS drop to 38. Load was around 65%. It recovered soon after and smoothness wasn't affected. All the bomber pilots were standing upright though. Gigabyte Aorus Elite Mobo. No mods. AMD 9800X3D CPU. No mods. RTX 5090 GPU. Antonovomatic Posted July 25 Posted July 25 (edited) It should be pretty easy to isolate the settings that are actually effecting this purported improvement if someone is so inclined. Or to put it another way, I would be shocked if this isn't just altering one or more settings to a less performance-intensive selection. Edited July 25 by Antonovomatic
