Oh wow, the grass! FM said he'd played with his and got better FPS on the airfield, so I turned mine off and took the IL10 for a spin. No more stuttering trees and buildings on the deck. 😲

Gigabyte Aorus Elite Mobo. No mods.
AMD 9800X3D CPU. No mods.
RTX 5090 GPU. No mods.
64GB G-Skill RAM at 6000mhz. XMP on.
Samsung SSD.

Monitor at 3840x2160.
Pimax Crystal Super.

Il2K does not support QVFR.

They are working on a faster implementation currently, so hopefully that will improve things. 

For me, the airports are fine (RTX5090), but the problem is the cities and larger villages, which cut the FPS by more than half. Of course, any optimization is welcome. The DD mentioned that they're working on optimization, including improving the performance of grass and trees, so the direction is right. Fingers crossed for good solutions for us.

No words about the blurry ground textures. This is a huge immersion breaker. I really hope they sort this out sooner than later. 

Besides the necessary optimizations which are sure to come, I have great fun so far. I really like the scenario and the direction of this new il2 iteration.

They acknowledge the issue and know the cause, but that is not the same as a fix. But the fix should come before the release.

Turning off Indirect Lighting makes a big difference too.

Zoom Level 1 to 4 in keys mapping.

If by this you mean that mushy soup you get if looking at ground textures from a distance, but that is transformed into clear crips image if you zoom, i have discovered that it's connected to "distant landscape detail" setting.

At x2, and from approx 6k meters, the ground is all blurry.

At x3 and 6k meters is perfect, and it goes OK till about 10k meters.

At x4 is perfect at any height, but it's quite demanding on the gpu.

Of course that at x1 is blurry starting from about 3k meters.

Normal distance landscape setting is a blurry mess and should be ok (acceptable ) as standard for VR or low spec system.

 A blurry mess in standard settings which is leagues below what we have in GB is nothing I would have expected from a next Gen iteration.

with standard settings I would at least expect a visual fidelity of ground textures like we have in GB.

Move your head backwards and forwards. 😁

The airfield depends for me. The one with the biggest impact is on the west side,  the US field on an island. About halfway down the runway where the taxiway off is, facing the island interior hits FPS the most. Still above 60 with Ultra grass but its noticeable. 4080Super. I didn't notice an issue over cities but will check again.

The water quality is strongly tied to HDR, turned it on an what a difference in water appearance.

I fly with Distant Landscape Detail x4, but that doesn't mean everything is sharp, the distance is fine, and everything would be fine if all texture types worked at that distance. Unfortunately, there are sometimes "patches/fileds" much closer that, for some reason, are still blurry, even though the ones further away are sharp. I can't explain it. If you turn on the zoom, they sharpen, but if you pull back, they're still blurry, so x4 also needs improvement, although here it looks quite okay. I didn't notice any significant difference in the performance of x2 and x4 in VR, so I'm using x4.

I'm really digging VectorXR.  Especially the new release.  https://github.com/DienerTech/vectorxr 

No issues with my Varjo Aero.

Pivot is working just like XRNeckSafer.  I'm using the depth to tinker with the world size.  My cockpit seems a little bigger.  Haven't mucked with sharpening as of yet, (I'll do that with Quads in the other sims)

I do have the grass turned off, plus the internal light thingy is off too.  (can't remember the exact name).  Landscape at 3x

That's what I was getting too but not anymore. I suspect certain combos of settings are the cause of this unpredictability and reliability.
