I'd love a F-82.  I remember seeing one as a kid and fell in love with the design.

My other vote would be for a B-26.  Low level night interdiction?  Yes please!

I'm really excited about IL2 Korea as Korea was a great period of props being replaced by early jets. Will we possibly see in the future USN aircraft such as the F4U-4 Corsair, AD Skyraider and the F9F Panther and maybe even a carrier to base operations from?

It's 99% certain the 1st DLC will be carrier ops. Images of the F4U have been shown since almost the very beginning, and a carrier has also been teased.

What about Korea side?

I don't think they'll bet on just one side of the conflict only.

They've said that all five will share a common feature (paraphrasing) and they've all but said carriers are coming, and I'm pretty sure the Corsair and Panther have been mentioned. It makes sense to me that the common feature would be aircraft that operate from aircraft carriers. Those five would fill the carrier line-up nicely. I don't see new communist aircraft fitting as well with what we know. Though I'd hope they get brought in later. MiG-15, La-9, and Po-2 are about the only ones left.

The other thing that could fit is all five are mainly used for night ops, in which case the Po-2 could work. But I think everything being centered around carrier ops is much more likely.

If the ground war is spectacular, complex, and something new and truly remarkable, than who really needs the opposing air force having to be balanced out?

It certainly wasn't so in the real war.

Those are all possible, but I have always been a fan of cr@p planes and the underdog, so I would personally like to see this...

At the very least as an AI plane, because most of the ground action for the Western Block was directed by FACs

I suspect that the Firefly will be swapped out for a Banshee...

I would prefer a Firefly myself though - at least as a static aircraft for the decks of British Carriers... they really won't look historically accurate otherwise.

P.S. I've also developed a liking for the Seafire - and it is more relevant than I thought... only one tour, but a tour that involved a lot of armed reconnaissance up and down the coasts on both sides of Korea.

I'm with you on that. A Po-2 is also an option - but either way, it'd be nice to have something low and slow compared to the jets and the last generation of piston fighters (which are still pretty fast). I'd be very tempted by a Po-2, B-26 Invader, F-82G expansion (maybe throw in an F7F as well)? The Meteor F.8 also remains interesting.

I could see the Banshee as a possible alternative, but I hope not, at least at first. It's absence wouldn't be felt as much in the US Navy lineup as the Firefly's absence would be felt if they put the Commonwealth in with just the Sea Fury.

I'd love to see a Seafire and F-82 if they did a 1950 expansion down the road.

A few observations:

- The Yak-17 engaged in Korea was a misidentification.

- Do we know the Yak-9U actually served in Korea? Is it a misidentification.

- The DeHavilland Vampire (e.g. FB Mk.6) and Venom are both contemporaries of the Korean War - but they weren't deployed to Korea (only the RAAF Meteor Mk.8 served in the Korean War). The Mig-9 was never deployed to Korea, however China operated a number of them and they could theoretically have seen service.  The developers have stated that they aren't interested in including aircraft that require alternate history scenarios (so not the Vampire, Venom, La-15, Il-28 etc.)... although I do wonder if they'd allow a third party to do it?

Two-seat Yak-17 trainers were used to train Korean and Chinese pilots; they had to fly them for 4 hours before transitioning to the MiG-15. The Yak-17 would be interesting as a training aircraft.

Thank you! Always a fountain of information!

I believe the kill claims about the trainers being engaged were refuted...? But that doesn't mean that they weren't in use as trainers! It'd be pretty neat to have - especially if they also made the single-seat version while they were at it. It has quite a bit of charm.

Thanks)

There were no problems with combat aircraft, MiG-15s and MiG-15bis arrived in a steady stream from the USSR but there were major problems with training aircraft (their development and production have always been given the lowest priority). I'm not sure whether the Yak-17s ever saw combat (there was no point) or were shot down; there were only non-combat losses, inevitable during training.

Regarding training aircraft - wouldn't the Yak-18 be more interesting? Together with the Po-2 it was also used as night bomber.
