LuftManu Posted August 28 Posted August 28 Hey everyone! Seems like DLSS 5 is coming soon for Nvidia GPUs. For those who don't know, DLSS 5 is another Nvidia step up in the game of AI + image https://www.nvidia.com/en-gb/geforce/news/dlss5-breakthrough-in-visual-fidelity-for-games/ This DLSS changes up the "whole quality" and of course, an important debate has been ongoing since then. Artistic direction, AI interpretation? The latest drivers had a few files... https://videocardz.com/newz/breaking-modders-unlock-experimental-nvidia-dlss-5-hours-after-dll-discovery So I tried to make it work in Il-2 Korea... and it works! Does it improves quality? IT CERTAINLY DOES! Specially cockpits and details This is not an official implementation. It taxes a lot. Youll need a 5090 in 2D but... Oh boy! With reshade, you can mod it but Ill wait for the modders to release the files and I hope the team also makes it compatible! It looks stunning! 11 5 Rig: RTX 5090 ASUS TUF / Ryzen 9850 X3D /Gigabyte X870E Pro X3D Motherboard / 48 GB DDR5 Teamgroup 8000 MT/s / MSI 321 URX QD-OLED 32" 4K

MajorMagee Posted August 28 Posted August 28 I currently turn off Indirect Lighting because of the 25% FPS hit. There's no way I'm going to cut it in half just to see more realistic faces and shinier cockpits. Now if you told me it could fix the MIE scattering factor, currently producing such an oversized PBR atmospheric bloom, that would be interesting. Since the Neural Rendering pass comes at the end of the rendering pipeline, like an AI version of Reshade, it most likely won't have any effect. The data has already been blown out by the PBR before it would have a chance to render anything in this area. And what is the performance impact? Only potentially seems worth it if has little impact on FPS.

In real time 4K OLED with no compression there is a BIG difference in texture quality and how it interacts with the lightning. It just looks better, like if all the textures have been upscaled. Zooming in on a image won't give you either the best view. You will be seeing this at full quality on your screen, but take this as an example. Is there any difference here? 🙂 33 minutes ago, MajorMagee said: Message Ill check it out soon. DLSS works different than a "reshade" tho. As for performance impact and answering @Aapje it does have a hit! almost 50% performance. But if you have performance to spare, why not a better image? This is doable with a 90 RTX card. That's what they are for. 2 hours ago, Hetstaine said: All nvidia settings please, i know i haven't the hardware, but i wanna tinker! AndreiTomescu Posted August 28 Posted August 28 Honestly now, this does look incredible, but it's a bit useless in a flight sim. Unless you have star trek hardware. In a game like GTA, or RDR, or such, yes. If you have appropriate hardware. For us here.....i dunno Oreoreeeoyeero!
Aapje Posted August 28 Posted August 28 1 hour ago, LuftManu said: Is there any difference here? It's very obvious to me that the second image is brighter. I find it very hard to distinguish between the effects of the brightness increase vs actual improvement in quality. Any increase in brightness will make it easier to see detail, also in real life. I see more detail in my room when a bright sun is illuminating it, versus an overcast day or artificial lighting. That doesn't mean that my room actually has more detail on a sunny day. Quote But if you have performance to spare, why not a better image? This is doable with a 90 RTX card. I would think that most simmers who bought a 5090 for IL-2 fly in VR and they then have no performance to spare. One of your screenshots shows 56 FPS, which is also not exactly great. I guess that Korea being CPU-limited for people with strong GPUs does mean that you may not be able to max out the GPU and it you might be able to run this with relatively little impact, but hopefully they will improve the optimization of Korea.
LuftManu Posted August 28 Author Posted August 28 Did an small video. From my perspective: Long distance textures seems to be "tuned" by dlss and they appear higher res. Maybe some "shadow" ghosting with some planes with snow No noticeable artifacts Gameplay starts at min 03:10 Compression is noticeable but can't render the thing more. That can easily be confused for better quality. It's part of it, but definitely not all. Just increasing brightness is a shallow interpretation of what can be seen. At the very least, brightness increase is local, similar to what you might see with an HDR effect. You can also clearly see an increased fresnel effect near the edges of the gunsight. 1

YoYo Posted August 29 Posted August 29 It looks good, and the differences are very positive BUT I've heard that enabling DLSS 5 takes almost ... half the frame rate (!), so that's absurd, at least for now, especially in IL-2 Korea, which generally has significant performance issues (especially noticeable in Career mode). Something that looks good in a picture or short video may not always provide the same pleasure during gameplay. In VR I think it wouldn't be possible to use it at all for performance reasons. 11 hours ago, Patricks said: That looks like a comparison of Mig Alley and IL-2 Korea, I get the image on the right (in VR) using DLSS 4.5 with the latest 3.10.7.129 file.. LuftManu Posted August 29 Author Posted August 29 12 hours ago, MajorMagee said: It was supposed to be seen as an excellent Joke... So far the before/after example pictures look like the specular reflectivity has simply been boosted. I wouldn't say it just affects reflectivity. I am no dev but there are more changes to it. After playing a few hours yesterday, full flight - no testing: - Contacts can be seen better, seems like the dots are bigger and the game has more contrast when a plane is infront a cloud. - Surfaces that are reflective, as you say, are more powerful - Cockpits are more lively with local brightening and darkening depending on the spot. - Textures are improved and details come to live, for example banding is much reduced - Glass and sun reflections seem to be more pronounced depending on the angle or cover more of the 3D model. - Objects blend better in the ground - As textures are improved, they are too in long distances: thus low resolution at long distances seems to be somewhat worked by this This is a zoomed up image from above. I have modified a few values in the program and I suspect devs could tune how DLSS 5 interacts with their games. In this case I tried to minimize every effect and see how it looks. This is the less intrusive addition I could manage to make: Again, all of this is just an experiment 😄 And it might or not might be up to your personal liking. I personally do like how it looks 🙂 @YoYo sadly it takes a lot of performance. For those who are, like me, on a 2D with a 5090 or 4090 is a good way to fully utilize the GPU. This is what it looks like on another game: 3 Rig: RTX 5090 ASUS TUF / Ryzen 9850 X3D /Gigabyte X870E Pro X3D Motherboard / 48 GB DDR5 Teamgroup 8000 MT/s / MSI 321 URX QD-OLED 32" 4K

MGMSwordsman Posted August 29 Posted August 29 I have downloaded the latest NVIDIA GeForce drivers. I use DLSS in my graphics settings within IL2 Korea. With the new drivers, is DLSS 5 automatically in use? I don't see a reference to DLSS 5 in the graphics settings. Can someone please tell me how to turn on DLSS 5 in the sim or ensure that it is being used? Thank you. 1
Dash,Polder Posted August 29 Posted August 29 No, it isn't automatic, nor is there any official support, the files to do it were leaked out and it's a file replacement. Wouldn't recommend it if your using VR or don't have a top notch system.
Hetstaine Posted August 29 Posted August 29 Had a bit of a look, started at 1.00 with the three toggles, and set down to .8 and it definitely looked nicer. Terrain, near and far, clouds, plane details looked really good. Fps started at low 30s then as i was toggling on and off it all slowly dumped to 1fps and stayed there, had to bail out of game. Generally getting above 70fps and up to 90ish all maxed so thought i might be able to muck around for a bit at 30ish but no joy. Early days though but not much good for me as i'm multiplayer only besides using SP to learn new planes/practice systems/weapons. Pity, once it's advanced a lot more it would be great for the terrain enhancement alone. Once it does release could it be implemented and not need the reshade file thus not be a mp spotting 'hack'? LuftManu Posted August 29 Author Posted August 29 Hello guys! I've got good news. For those who have RTX 50 (and above in the future)... this leaked version does not even use NVFP4, which those cards have. Meaning when it's released, the impact might cost 10% of performance. 22 minutes ago, Hetstaine said: Had a bit of a look, started at 1.00 with the three toggles, and set down to .8 and it definitely looked nicer.
