Still trying to figure out the ins and outs of the campaign, but it's been a fun start to things so far with my F-80 career. Only lost 2 pilots in a month so far. image.png.0b5b53aa149a696cd460753cd9defdd3.png

You will be happy to know I walked away - however unlikely that may have been and no rockets cooking off.. and yes my wing tank merged with the runway

What a great damage model! :classic_ohmy: His engine blew up and he stayed a little too long with his bird! (AI attacker in Yak-9P Combat Mission Exam).

the engine detail on it is incredible. The wing spars, etc...you are right, absolutely fantastic.

It's part of what's made Il-2 one of my favorite games since the first demo dropped when I was still in Junior High back in 2001.

Junior high?! I was 25 and 4 years into my 8 year active duty air force commitment lol. Dang haha. I remeber that first il2 though. I think it was the voodoo 3d cards that I had. I remember how awesome it felt. It seemed so real at the time.

Haha, I guess you were in a better place for gaming. I remember begging my Mom for weeks to get us a VoodooFX 300 because our computer "needed" it for Operation Flashpoint to work.

Ha! I convince myself every time a new rtx card comes out that I need one. Except the new rtx 6000. That is a bit steep on the price right now. 11 to 13k

I was 42 in 2001. Never played a sim before, startet in 2004 with IL-2 Forgotten Battles. But ended my flying career as a reserve officer (air crew, not pilot) with the Luftwaffe only two years ago in 2024 when I turned 65.

But we are heavily off-topic now in this thread … 😄

RCAF family here, both my father and my uncle and my cousin. Seems like a lot of us come to flight simulations through real life webs of connection.,

I have a few old photos of RCAF base Winnipeg when we were there in 1963-65 with a few Sabre jets on the tarmac along with the CF-101.

Yep, I was 19 and had just enlisted in the Marines following 9/11. We're f#@kin' old.

You were lucky. I ETS'd from the Corps in 2005 and ended up cross-decking into the Army (2008-2016) after a stint in contracting, downrange type stuff. Like within a year or so of enlisting they started moving away from the 20 year retirement mainstay and into BRS. All that ended up meaning was that cats that wanted to retire after 20 had to say on well past that in order to get the benefits they'd initially have gotten in the old system. Absolute nonsense, in my opinion.

We should open a thread like the "Faces of the flying community" in the old forum also here to keep the screenshot and other threads clear of our personal stories. :classic_rolleyes:
