Especially in career mode early in the war before the modification was fitted and widely adopted? Perhaps it could be a modification that the player could choose to fit like the other various modifications other aircraft have in-game? A really good idea ! Do you know when reinforced canopy became fully adopted in Korea ?

I am having a hard time finding an exact date because not every wing started using this modification at the same time. But it seems to be pretty well documented that by late 1951, it was pretty universally adopted accross the combat wings. Additonally, I keep reading that somewhere in the E-variant's production, the canopy bracing was factory installed. Although where in the E-variants production seems to be debated, it definitely was not done before the 10-block (and by the end of the 10 block, 300 of the 843 F-84E's had been produced). The point is, for much of the F-84E's first year of involvement in the Korean war, many would not have had the canopy bracing yet. I recommend reading David McLaren's book on the F-84, as well as cross-referencing between Ken Neubeck's book and Bert Kinzey's book on the F-84, which is where much of my information is coming from. Uther Posted July 27 Posted July 27 If they removed it would there have to be a change to the damage model though? 9800X3D / Asus Radeon RX 7900 XT TUF OC / Corsair Vengeance EXPO 64GB / W11

For the canopy, there would have to be a different "shattered canopy" model for a damaged canopy, sure. But i'm sure that the MiG-15's upgraded airbrakes modification has a different damage model too, and that is already a modification implemented in-game. 2
Rails Posted July 30 Posted July 30 Pitch forces still feel way to light with newest patch. I'm using a VPforce rhino force feedback base, It's gotten lighter for me since .003 and still seems off compared to what the manual states.
Jorri Posted August 5 Posted August 5 I got a bug online last night where no matter how much fuel I'd set up, it would state a combat radius of 0 miles. https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2837149650?t=01h27m40s People on Steam are reporting the same bug: https://steamcommunity.com/app/247970/discussions/0/589560061702979628/ 1
Plev Posted August 8 Posted August 8 Super excited for the expanded gunsight functions, especially bomb and rocket delivery. devs, can you tell us a bit about what to expect? How similar will the functions be to the auto bombing mode in the F-100 in DCS? Do you have any material for us to brush up on such as documents so we can prepare to use the features that are gonna make the F-84 shine? 2

I think right now the best thing is to read up on the different functions in the museum, on the cockpit layout page. There's quite a bit of detail about adjustments that need to be made when attacking with/against the wind, perpendicular/parralel attacks, etc. 1
Mekyro Posted August 11 Posted August 11 I am very excited for this! I have been playing around with the F-84 and enjoying it. Are these features (automatic rocket and bomb pipper adjustment) in game already, or coming in a future update?

Sh4rk087 Posted August 11 Posted August 11 When putter f84 into auto level the plane likes to roll back and forth until it's almost 90 degrees with the ground and kicks it out of auto level 3
BlitzPig_EL Posted August 11 Posted August 11 Try having the plane trimmed out for level flight first, and not doing any kind of rapid control inputs before you activate the auto level. Rapid aircraft movements will kick it out of auto level.
Leifr Posted August 11 Posted August 11 The F84 will oscillate along the roll axis in increasingly greater movements when auto-level is enabled. For me, it doesn't matter how well trimmed out the aircraft is before engaging. If I can find the time, I'll make a record of it. 2
gord Posted August 11 Posted August 11 where you guys releasing bombs with this jet? mainly was flying the piston stuff and found i had good success releasing just as the target went under the nose. the F-84 seems to be more when the target is in the reticule but still trying to figure it out.
Mekyro Posted August 12 Posted August 12 Speaking of unexpected movements, have y'all noticed that it seems a little jerky/jumpy in the pitch axis? The lightest kiss on a stick produces a much more pronounced initial motion for me, with more predictable behaviours the harder I'm already pulling on the stick 1 4
BlitzPig_EL Posted August 12 Posted August 12 Yes, I have the same issue with the F84. I have tried taming it with playing with the input curves, to no avail.
FuriousMeow Posted August 12 Posted August 12 (edited) The wing tanks make the F84 a little unstable along the roll axis, but I can be in a 45 degree bank, hit auto level, and it will get me to level and that's that. No roll oscillation or any instability. What's the load out where auto level just able to keep level? Edited August 12 by FuriousMeow
Voxman Posted August 12 Posted August 12 Seems to me that the airbrake is your friend on this bird. The plane seems unstable at greater than 400mph. Over 500 there's flutter. Computer: AMD 7800x3D, Nvidia 5070Ti, 64Gb DDR5-6000. Input devices: Virpil Aeromax Flightstick; Virpil VMAX Throttle, Charlie Rudder. Varjo Aero.

The lightest kiss on a stick produces a much more pronounced initial motion for me, with more predictable behaviours the harder I'm already pulling on the stick There is some kind of bug on the F-84 and the built in static curve where the initial pitch down movement is cut forwards missing a giant gap of stick movement making finesse almost impossible. If this is your case, use exponent only for the pitch response curve and the 84 is much more tame on the pitch. This is the direct 1:1 response curve outside of the sliders you can add bellow. 1 2
Mekyro Posted August 13 Posted August 13 Thanks for the advice! I'm not sure I understand the benefit of the new curve settings, there's a lot going on under the hood of this new game and I'm excited to muddle through

Exponent Only is the 1:1 to your stick movement on the output. The traditional "clean" one where you can add a simple curve with the sliders bellow. 1 1
JG4_Moltke71 Posted August 19 Posted August 19 (edited) I am a bit confused about the rpm limits in the manual. Problem solved, the problem sits in front of the computer 😅 the tachometer is rpm’s in percent, I didn’t notice the text on the gauge because it’s covered by the needles 😜 Edited August 19 by JG4_Moltke71 ASUS ROG-ASTRAL-RTX5090-32GB GDDR7; ASUS ROG STRIX X870E-E GAMING; AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D 4,3GHz AM5; DDR5 64GB PC 6000 CL30 G.Skill Varjo Aero Headset
ComputerJones Posted August 19 Posted August 19 Potentially dumb question here, but since there aren't any and I'm not sure the above chat about pitch sensitivity or weight exactly covers this: My squadron was upgraded from the F-80C to the F-84E and on the first mission, I noted that there was an extreme need to apply constant forward pressure to keep it in level flight. I pulled back the power (was pushing about 400 MPH indicated) but this didn't do much. I had full nose down trim and anecdotally would say I was deflecting the stick forward about 20-30% of full travel. I'm using exponential curves with ~30% exponent (if I remember right). On a force feedback joystick this gets to be quite tiring and I can't imagine things were that bad so: Am I doing it wrong? Cruising way too fast/too low? Is there perhaps something I have misconfigured? I'm reading the above posted handbooks and high-speed flight characteristics to learn more but figured I'd ask those with more knowledge on the topic. For whatever it's worth, I see the same tendency in the F-86A, but not to the degree it exists in the F-84: I am constantly having to apply notable forward pressure with full nose down trim.
