Hi, during the last exam mission with the F84 Thunderjet - the radio instructions and the AI pilots aren't working. There's also no voice output - no confirmation, etc.

Greetings

I posted this in another thread I think it belongs here sorry for double post you can delete other post.

In single player anybody have any luck getting a wingman to attack ground targets with Commander menu? Ground targets are visible and flying over them and ignoring commands. Is this a hopeless task to try to figure out now or maybe it will get better in patches and full release?

AI driving columns don't wait long enough once napalm is dropped and with supreme dedication self immolate to keep the convoys rolling, tanks are generally OK driving through but soft shell taco never make it.  Maybe they need to tune their stop longer than the fire lasts.

Last exam of F-80C. I destroy 21 targets of 25 needed in all the group. The other 7 F-80 do not destroy the other 4 needed.

Edit: As AEthelraedUnraed said, it could be a mission problem. Although I observed some F-80 attacking with the guns at empty space on an enemy runway.

Maybe they did destroy 4 but they didn't register; see my comment here:

In my case, only 6 of the 30 registered kills were mine so it seems the AI are definitely able to hit something (one AI did a rather destructive attack run on the train).

Simple B-29s will not properly trigger waypoints. Doesnt matter if they are spawned, enabled, in formation, or individual, they will not trigger the waypoint, and upon hitting the first way point just circle downwards until they get shot down or crash. This significantly limits what I can do, since I cant make them turn at all.

I had this problem too. Apparently B-29s don't like hard turns, so waypoints need to be placed carefully and with enough distance between them.

As mentioned by others, there are issues with the exams in the sim. My main issues are with the AI on the final F-80 and F-84 exams. On the F-80 exam the AI is very unreliable at attacking the ground targets - sometimes they go kill crazy, other times they are complete pacifists, meaning I have been unable to complete it. As for the F-80 final exam, the AI simply don't seem to want to attack the target.

did you actually get it to work though? I had to set up the waypoints on timers.

Yes it worked after a lot of testing. The larger the B-29 formation is, the more problematic it gets.

Seems like friendly Yak-9 AI planes always have an engine malfunction, usually shortly after takeoff. The engine simply stops, then they crash. There seems to be an issue with fuel mixture on these planes too, which is perhaps related.

The IL-10 fares a little bit better, but I've seen these crash after a while also.

The La-11 will sometimes fly very close to the ground with a weird fluttering engine sound, and then crash while the engine is still running.

If I understand right AI was used to generate the voices we hear from other AI and player aircraft. Whats with the constant "Yiro Yiro" callsigns? Its ruining immersion, i thought the whole point of using AI generated voices is the flexibility and realism. Is this just an Early Access placeholder? What are they actually saying?

The ai has superhuman G-tolerance, you can't sustain their turns in the same type of aircraft.

I've played the game night and day for a week, and it's a gem for sure, however the AI is sadly not very functional. Here are the problems I have encountered so far:

- AI radio chatter makes no sense (who the h*** is kite?), and is too frequent.

- On Task Editor missions: Frequent crashing, especially on or shortly after take-off. The Yaks are notorious, but I've seen other planes crash too. I included a replay of a Mustang flying into the ground, seemingly for no reason. Often the engine shuts off leading to the crash, but not always.

- Jets, at high altitude and high speed, will very often just fly around each other without proper engagement. The fourth exam mission for the MIG-15 illustrates this perfectly.

- AI won't act on your commands in a meaningful way, and there is no radio reply.

- AI wingmen can sometimes spot individual planes very well, but huge formations with contrails are seen very late.

- AI wingmen on scramble missions are way too slow and the enemy aircraft are too close (even on the max distance setting). Which frequently leads to a massacre on the runway.

- AI skill rating doesn't seem to matter enough in AI vs AI encounters between nominally better and worse airplanes. Example: Mustang vs La-11. The Mustang seems to win 90% of the time regardless of skill rating. Pilot competence should matter more.

I set up a single mission in Task Editor flying the Yak 9 against 2 F51s and 2 TU2s. Its a scramble from the runway.

I've run the mission 3x and twice -- before I am even in pursuit -- one of the F51s falls to earth in a spin. I have the F51s set on VETERAN.

Dogfighting with the sabre against a Mig-15 ace level IA (third exam of the sabre) I just dived a bit to make him dive on me and the MiG-15 just crashed into the ground. It seems or could be that the IA is still generic and more thought for prop planes so it doesn't adapt to the limits of a high power jet?

Another serious problem that has been present in Great Battles for years is that if you fly just over AAA it gets stuck and fires continually.

Need a track file, please. 🙂

Am unable to enable the setting for autoclimb/maintain climb or whatever it is called.  I have tried mapping keys, joystick buttons and the backspace menu thing - when I do that it say "on" then goes "off".

It works for a chap I fly with.

Simple B-29s are not behaving correctly. They do not properly follow waypoints in most scenarios, and sometimes they just decide to descend down the the deck for no reason.

I detected that autoclimb/autodescend keeps the angle that the plane has at the moment you push the button. If the angle is too high and the plane doesn't have enough energy/power it reaches a point were it deactivates. It could be that? At least is the impression i got about it.

Thanks for the idea - I'll do some more testing.

Trying to start a career with the F-51D. Group doesn't taxi to the runway even when I give the order nor following me. They start engine after I start engine, but not always and only 3 planes of 12 did a bit of taxi when I gave the order to take off, but without entering the runway.

Alrighty done some testing at most speeds and angles, and the autoclimd just does not work.  No other settings appear to affect it. Re-mapped and the standard LCTRL+A does not work.  Level autopilot works flawlessly.

Strange. To me works ok if the angle of attack isn't too high.

You have to taxi out quite a ways to get the planes behind you to taxi. There is a white square waypoint marker that will show this.
