For example at which distance AI can spot enemy planes at night or where exactly the blindspots for different aircraft types are. I wish we could take a look at the AI code, but of course I understand that the devs can't make it public.

I wish we could take a look at the AI code, but of course I understand that the devs can't make it public. It all depends. In darkness, I've occasionally been spotted at ranges of up to 300m and occasionally only within a 100. I think it's partly the darkness (e.g. moon), partly the weather (e.g. haze), partly the AI skill setting and partly luck. If you fire your guns or accidentally left your lights on, you'll get spotted at daylight distances. Blind spots, get into the cockpit and have a look around. Generally, planes can't spot below and behind them. All these things depend on so many variables, that even if we did get the exact equations behind them (which we won't), you'd still need to test to know for certain if your logic works. Viking1 Posted Sunday at 11:00 PM Posted Sunday at 11:00 PM Has anyone done any one vs two tests? Id be very curious to know how often the Wingie of my target will try to get on my tail while no 1 is trying to shake me off. I know ive had it happen once but ive been mostly ground pounding in my F-51 1
Viking1 Posted Monday at 05:38 PM Posted Monday at 05:38 PM (edited) Flew one vs 2 in my F51 today, a pair of La-11s set on veteran. I thought they did pretty well. Rd 1 - Hd to head pass. The lead guy extended and I went after the wingie. Initially he used energy well but then it was a turn fight. Knocked him down by the time #1 was back in the game. But #1 did come back and gave me a lot of trouble until I winged him then it was just a matter of time Rd 2. Hd to head pass. Lead guy extended again but I dont think as far as the first time. before I could get hits on the wingie I had the lead on my tail and it was a furball. Eventually nailed one of them but meantime took hits and had all kinds of damage and had to exit the fight. First time I have seen my perspex shattered on top AND holes in the side plates, locked up flaps etc managed to land anyway. Rd 3. Hd to head pass. Nearly nailed the wingie a couple times but then lead was back in the game. From just observation one might think the wingie made a mistake getting in a turn fight with me. BUT - its a big BUT - in two vs two doctrine it was a good play because #1 is on his way back and I'm preoccupied. SO actually #2 did the smart thing and a furball with two is quite a challenge. With more time in the F51 I can probably knock one of them down faster but this is veteran level AI. Now I'll try them on Ace. Edited Monday at 05:39 PM by Viking1 1
Viking1 Posted Monday at 06:13 PM Posted Monday at 06:13 PM (edited) One vs Two my F51 vs 2x La-11 set on ACE Rd 1. Completely different engagement style, instead of being happy with my head on merge they both attempted to go offset. Lead did not extend they were both in the fight from the start. This is a whole nother level of challenge. I went high hoping I could buy some time (indecision means flexibility). Then I had to choose one and got on his tail long enough to get hits. Hung on longer and it was twist and turn, finally had a nice setup but wasnt sure where No 2 was. Sure enough I got peppered and had to induce a spin to survive. Went down low over my airfield was curious to see how aggressive they would be. Sure enough someone came after me heh so nice. Got a track file on this one I'll edit in a new thread.
