Most of the attack scenes are models and if you observe closely you'll see the wires the model jets are sliding on.

But the artwork they were able to pull off is very convincing and top notch.  Especially those forests and mountains.

I always thought it was unusual for a Hollywood movie of the 50's where all the main characters get killed in the end! Except Grace of course. 😁

The producers and studio wanted a happy ending, but William Holden would only do the movie if they kept the same ending as in the novel.
