Col.Sanders Posted August 18 Posted August 18 It's very interesting how much they are continuing to hold the line about DFR/ Quadviews. Numerous industry experts have flat out stated they are wrong about DFR. There testing protocol using an very aged CPU which would significantly bottleneck quadviews which would be a likely culprit of why they do not see as large of an increase as expected. Maybe someday they will stop being so stubborn and actually implement it. But the longer they go, the more likely it will be a hack job as it is being added well after the fact. I purchased and returned the game on steam due to the poor performance on high resolution headsets. 5
Avimimus Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Impressed by the ambitious dynamic campaign plan! I do have doubts about the plausibility of airpower determining the outcome of a war (except perhaps destruction of synthetic fuel plants, supply lines etc.) I'd personally prefer something where you actively shape the survival of ground units across a local area of the front... still impactful, but more plausible. Of course, I'm just one person. I'm also impressed by the responsiveness. It would be really cool if there were long term plans to develop better reconnaissance and artillery spotting gameplay: I am exceptionally satisfied by this sim though! Just looking to the future. 1

There’s no guarantee that anything will come out of it, but it could be helpful. The ball is in 1C’s court now to make use of Mbucchia expertise. Edited August 18 by Husar 3
LuftManu Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Great work team!! Looking forward to the future! After reading the DD seems like AI overhaul will happen sooner or later! besides the dynamic campaign, which is another point for many. Pretty happy! 🙂 3 Rig: RTX 5090 ASUS TUF / Ryzen 9850 X3D /Gigabyte X870E Pro X3D Motherboard / 48 GB DDR5 Teamgroup 8000 MT/s / MSI 321 URX QD-OLED 32" 4K
Aapje Posted August 18 Posted August 18 (edited) Interesting news about the dynamic campaign. Good to see them asking for voice actors now, just after I posted something similar. What seems to be missing is any information about performance when flying over cities. Edited August 18 by Aapje
YoYo Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Cool DD! Of course, I'm especially happy about the announcements of further work on VR performance. It's a very important element of the game. I know VR users are troublesome with their complaints ;), but it's something that once you get into it, you don't want to leave. And we want to continue having fun with IL-2 Korea, just as much as IL-2 GB. 🙂 Some of the other information is also very promising! GiftGruen Posted August 18 Posted August 18 (edited) I am extremly happy to read this DevBlog because it adresses the (imho) most important topic: AI and - although I found settings now that allow me to have ‚combat fun‘ - also the VR optimization task is something I love to read. So: This is the DevBlog I dreamed of. Devs are Devs and no wizards, but at least this Blog tells us that the topics are identified. Great! Redeye Posted August 18 Posted August 18 I am somewhat confused about the comment about VR. I am using a Quest3 and I am not so happy with VR implementation. When I use DLSS the performance in FPS is very good in relation to the age of my CPU and my RTX4070 Ti Super. But the image in my headset is terrible. Cockpit and outside is very blurry like I forgot the put on my glasses.I am using therefore MSAA 2x just like in GB for a clear image. The price is reduced performance and shimmering. Technology wise maybe not a fair comparison but in DCS I use DLSS and performance is good and the visuals are sharp. My personal benchmark if you will. I will also add that I love this game as a strict SP guy. It is simply fun! So overall thumbs up and keep on coding!
KC23 Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Great news regarding a dynamic campaign, zeroing in on AI performance, comms quality, and a growing number of simplified targets for immersion's sake. I think VR equipment is way too expensive, so I really don't care yet on those issues. As far as multiplayer, I'm a co-op-only person, so I'm hoping that both the dynamic campaign and career mode will allow for Co-op.
JL1 Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Seems like very good decisions selecting the priorities going forward. Great news regarding the dynamic campaign! 1 CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D 8-Core Processor GPU: RTX 5090 RAM: 96 Gb DDR5 SSD: WD Black 4TB SSD & WD Black 8TB SSD Monitor: LG 48-Inch OLED evo C4 Series Smart TV 4K HOTAS - Virpil Trackir 5
Dash,Polder Posted August 18 Posted August 18 I'd settle for some deferred rendering with eye tracking support for the headsets that already have and support it, may as well make use of those features they already built into the hardware.
Husar Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Dynamic and also coop campaign would be something to look for.
Justicier10-7 Posted August 18 Posted August 18 All the work on fixes and improvements are good to hear, looking forward to the updates. But that dynamic campaign confirmation definitely got my attention... and really makes me wonder what sort of custom dynamic campaigns may be possible.

If they're allowing alternate histories... we could have a dynamic campaign where the DPRK received a lot more Il-10 (and other prop aircraft) from the USSRs reserves. Also, maybe a Vampire or Venom? Or La-15? They've said in a Briefing Room that they aren't considering modelling contemporary aircraft from the European theatre that weren't deployed to Korea... but if we're allowed to change history through our actions in a dynamic campaign... well... one can dream. That said, I'd be quite ecstatic if we see the B-26 Invader, F-82G, Meteor F.8, Seafire Fr.47 etc. (Aircraft that actually served in Korea!) I'm also impressed enough with the sensation of flight that I'll try flying anything they produce... very very happy overall (with the one exception being the AI). 1 2
actionhank Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Pretty exciting stuff all around in this update. The newer voice lines will definitely be appreciated! Anything to make my flight feel like more unique pilots is a great addition in my book. Especially since it makes it a little easier to tell which pilot is talking when I hear a radio callout.
AndreiTomescu Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Ambitious and passionate, this plans. Also I see the devs are much more willing to adapt their plans to the wishes of the community, and that's both smart and fruitful. Now myself, a genuine east European guy, i'm worried a bit about one thing: timelines. Deadlines. ETAs. 🙂 "As long as the game lifespan". That is promising. "Autum". That's a bit vague, but sits in a time frame. For the rest of the planned jobs, I would really love to see some committed time frames. We all know that beautiful picture with the upcoming Il-2 Series events. Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4, Q69...... We all know by now those Qs are overdue. Justified by the amount of work, and by the high quality of the results, but hey! these guys are making air sims for ages, they know the ropes.... Imho, putting some ETAs for each planned development would confirm the already proven skills and commitment into the project.

Oh absolutely there's all manner of cool stuff that could be done... and we could get much more red aircraft possibilities if the Soviets and PLA took an even more active role in an alternate history campaign, perhaps selling the DPRK a bunch of their older stock like MiG-9's, Yak-17's, and Yak-23's. The Il-28 could also see a much more active combat role. We've got a bunch of historical blue aircraft possibilities, so having some hypothetical second-line red jets, and a more active Il-28 role would be a blast in an alternate history campaign. Not to mention that the dynamic campaign system can be carried forward to future theaters... WW2 Pacific? Dynamic campaign in late-war pacific or Papua New Guinea campaign would be an absolute riot 😃 Edited August 18 by Justicier10-7

I think, given the complexity of the systems being developed... that doing so would be very unwise. We're talking about complex dynamic systems (i.e. systems where outputs can then become inputs) with lots of interactions between different systems. This kind of work the programmers are doing exists in a domain which is inherently unpredictable. They are navigating the whitewater at impressive speed and with grace... but there is no way they can see the future that perfectly. I don't think producing an ETA could really be honest (unless the ETA was very vague/tentative). 18 minutes ago, Justicier10-7 said: Not to mention that the dynamic campaign system can be carried forward to future theaters... I should probably stop giving people ideas which could slow down the return to WWI 😉 1
LuftManu Posted August 18 Posted August 18 With all of the things we've seen plus the ones coming such as simplified "Objects" for also fighters I bet we will increase the numbers of things in both MP and SP. And that would make WW1 even better 😄 @Avimimus Rig: RTX 5090 ASUS TUF / Ryzen 9850 X3D /Gigabyte X870E Pro X3D Motherboard / 48 GB DDR5 Teamgroup 8000 MT/s / MSI 321 URX QD-OLED 32" 4K
S.Darius/S.Girenas Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Good news for the community, Im looking forward to see what this project will become and how many new ideas they can fit in a plane sim. What makes me worry, how much payed content is on a the way!? For a basic game you get a really good campaing and coop mode + free flying.

Mayhaps we'll get a Korea engine Flying Circus someday... with properly modeled trenches and craters... no man's land would look as insane as it actually was. 2
