Valis Posted August 10 Posted August 10 Corsair Panther Sea Fury Meteor B-26 Invader (and a vanilla MiG-15) ...would be my no-brainer DLC. Beyond those we're dipping into helicopter territory. 3
YoYo Posted August 10 Posted August 10 (edited) And I'd like to see the Po-2 used for night bombing missions. The Koreans were quite effective at using them to deflect the UN mission. Of course, when the night in IL-2 Korea will be improved, because currently it unfortunately looks very bad (VR). 1 hour ago, Avimimus said: By early versions are you referring to Korean War era ones? Or the AD-1/AD-2 vs. AD-4? I'd be curious if you prefer the AD-2 over the AD-4... the AD-2 carried less armament (e.g. half of the 20mm cannons) and less armour, but had higher performance due to the lighter weight. I gather that all three were used in Korea. AD-2. Edited August 10 by YoYo Home cockipt: GPU RTX5090, CPU i7 13900, RAM 64Gb. | Webmaster of yoyosims.pl. VR flying only.
YoYo Posted August 10 Posted August 10 (edited) An-2s were also used. Perhaps for parachute drop missions in IL-2 Korea? Edited August 10 by YoYo Home cockipt: GPU RTX5090, CPU i7 13900, RAM 64Gb. | Webmaster of yoyosims.pl. VR flying only.
Pyro Posted August 10 Posted August 10 (edited) IL-28. It's quite obvious actuallly. RedFor is in need of an Jetbomber. Edited August 10 by Pyro 1

Beyond those we're dipping into helicopter territory. Honestly, besides the Navy aircraft I think the one aircraft that's most sorely needed is the T-6 Texan/Mosquito. The prime air controller during the war, it would provide some interesting and original gameplay, and would be quite useful as AI during Close Support missions. Besides that, the ROK pressed it into service as a ground attacker during the early days of the war, and is the ideal trainer aircraft for people who aren't experienced flight simmers yet. 2 1

The USSR delivered a number of Il-28s at the end of the war, but Chinese and North Korean crews did not manage to complete training or deploy them before the July 1953 armistice. Isolated overflights of Soviet Il-28s were reported in the Yalu River area of Manchuria in late 1952, but these were observation flights, not combat missions. 1 Home cockipt: GPU RTX5090, CPU i7 13900, RAM 64Gb. | Webmaster of yoyosims.pl. MiGCap Posted August 10 Posted August 10 And don‘t forget the helicopters! A Sikorsky H-5 Dragonfly would be the ideal entrance in this field. 2

That is Bed Check Charlie… you could do a whole campaign bombing US bases after dark as long as it is able to drop hand grenades. Or maybe take pot shots at the mess hall with a handgun. TheNappingMan Posted August 11 Posted August 11 Just my 6.5 cents (inflation): 100%: Corsair obviously I am 99.99% sure we'll see the following 😉: Panther, Skyraider I'd LIKE to see: Banshee, Sea Fury, Invader Needed, but not so sure: Twin Mustang, Texan/Mosquito AI: C-119, C-54, Po-2 Not much to add on the Red Side other than the non-bis MiG-15. The majority of the Air War in Korea was Ground Pounding for better or worse. 1
gecko Posted August 11 Posted August 11 The commies could still fill out their own DLC with interesting types, MiG-15 (initial production variant), La-9, An-2, Po-2, Yak-18 were all used. Even the La-7 back in 1950. Each of these has a pretty interesting UN opposite number which either is a comparable machine, or was frequently pitted against the other. Mig-15 v. F-86E/F La-9 v. B-26 An-2 v. C-119 Yak-18 v. AT-6 La-7 v. F-82 Po-2 v. F-94 (the Po-2 I believe actually got a manoeuver kill against an F-94.) All of that said, my guess/hope for this one is Skyraider, Corsair, Panther, Sea Fury, Firefly.

In fact, it is often unreliable and can be influenced by age, lifestyle, external factors, concussion, subliminal images, mental disease and/or ulterior motives, particularly evident in the criminal mind. Although the latter of course is more skullduggery than a lapse of memory. However, I think I remember this also. But it should not be ruled out as time passes. I mean I don't remember asking for Paris (FC) but we got it. At least, I don't think I remember asking for Paris. Of course, maybe someone did but I don't remember. It just came as a complete surprise. Poof! And there it was.

I also think I recall the Devs saying there were no plans for it. In any case, it would be an enormous job, given that the flight physics are very complex and completely different from that of aircraft. And then you'd also need to program damage physics and AI. Even if we're collectively misremembering the developers' statements, I think it's unfortunately highly unlikely we'll see helicopters. 2

Just to see them flying in the rear area as utility AC would be cool. Plus, I grew up watching reruns of MASH. The music shows up in my head the second I see a first gen helicopter. 1

I agree, but the inevitable result would be that people would complain about not being able to fly them, much more than when not having them at all. 2

BlitzPig_EL Posted August 11 Posted August 11 I speculated a Mig 15 UTI, but that windscreen is clearly the fighter version. Very cryptic.
Jorri Posted August 11 Posted August 11 (edited) Hear me out. The Soviet biplanes, and then some of this... ☺️ Edited August 11 by Jorri 3
Comrade_Mauser Posted August 13 Posted August 13 So there are all relevant soviet planes in the game now. Exept for Tupolevs for now maybe. This is what they charge 80€ for... and making the Lavochin a Pay2Play already. I have been confused from the beginning they chose Korea, because it had such a small aircraft pool. 80€ and nothing more to come than a few US WW2 survivors... that feels wrong. A walkable pilot and way too detailed huts in the nowhere is not what I expected to pay for. It doesnt even look and feel so much better than GB. All I can hope for is a rookie-career-mode additional to this new squadron-leader career and athmospheric campaigns... but man.. thats not a lot for an IL2 game.. this ressources could have been invested in GB and a Korea DLC too... 1
