Hot take:  I prefer Flying Circus over the WW2 module.  Things move slower, planes are closer together.  More deflection shots, more seat of the pants flying, in quirky machines that disintegrate if their limits aren't respected.   Less boom and zoom, its a knife fight to the death. Is it just me? Or am I getting old lol.  Reason why I ask is, I am really wanting to buy the Korea module, especially for the enhanced graphics, but I think it might move too fast, require too much cockpit management, relative to what I'm accustomed to.

You can only turn fight in Flying Circus in something like a Spad if you are fighting against the AI. Try it against a human and you’ll die pretty quickly.

WWI aircraft are slower, but dogfights are much more dynamic. You're constantly moving the stick and making control inputs, often more than when flying jets.

Hmm. I came to IL2 because of WW1. Really like this scenario and these old crates.

In the meanwhile I find it rather boring and prefer WW2. The FC implemantation as a SinglePlayer is simply not good. AI, flight models, balance, career options … yes, it could be great but it isn‘t. At least not for me.

So I know fly from time to time but my main module is IL2 WW2. Korea ? We‘ll see …

When we get back to WW2 on the new engine, we will attain peak IL2.

I tried to like WW1, but ground attack is hopeless with the old kites. Two rifle caliber guns just don't cut it, and it takes too long to get around the map.

The new engine has elevated the attack role a lot.   Better gun damage implementation, better ground objects, and a better world implementation.

In the end fly what you like.

I prefer WW1 and WW2, but giving Korea a shot. There's a lot to like in it so far, even with the limited EA. There's also still a couple prop jobs to enjoy.

Although I don't see the La-11 as an improvement at all over the La-7. The engine is the same but only has 5 minute boost compared to the 10 minute the La5FN and La7 have. The roll rate is also poo with the new wing compare to the La5 series and La7. Then there's a lack of the leading edge slats so low speed turn performance is also worse. I always avoided low speed fighting in the Lavochkins but the slats also helped in a sudden hard turn that can cause an accelerated stall. I did make sure the fuel load was reduced to the La5/La7 load before testing so it wasn't the, almost double, fuel weight causing the difference.

Anyway, glad to have both and that the GB series will still be getting some new birds this year as well.

No Sepp it's not just you. I've been reading the stories of WW1 fliers and planes since I was a kid. Would I throw away what I've loved for so long on a flashy jet plane? No. Maybe the planes aren't fast or sleek but they're fun. I suppose there will always be those who don't get it. I feel sorry for them.

Understand, never tried it with FC but .... does multiplayer give you early TwoSeaters to hunt in a EIII or DH2 ? Probably not. And also the strange flight model balance ( e.g. Albatros which is too slow and curves too well ) - I think we all know these dicussions.

So in the end, FC for me it's a missed chance.  Because the scenery itself and the really beautyful planes for sure are worth a better 'frame around'

Yes, there are those early missions in multiplayer from time to time, and once a year big event for 5 weekends - Bloody April in early stage it had those planes.

I play the game from time to time. Every time i return the first plane i fly is Il-2 - it`s slower than fighters and attack missions are easier for me than dogfights. After a few flights it becomes comfortable to take Yak or La.

I mean - maybe you should give Korea a chance, if you want to, of course? Try Il-10, when you get used to speed - take Yak-9P or Mustang, and so on.

I'll take Korea any day, the stall modeling is terrific, to be able to hit regular is wonderful, and the insane helicopter like nose up gunnery authority is gone.  You can burn an opponent once again who doesn't understand energy and it's management.  You are flying the plane, not so much it flying you.

Never feel sorry for those that lack taste. It is too vulgar to even contemplate and a waste of energy. But let us not forget people are free to choose their preference however misguided it may be. That is the cross WW1 enthusiasts must bear, but always with good grace as befitting a gentleman with sound morals and a stiff upper lip, below which a pipe is inserted to complement an RFC regulation moustache.

I love WW1 genre, read lots of books about that period, but now when ROF is dead and FC numbers are small, I switched to  WW2 /Korea because most ppl are playing there also. I'm back to FC for organized events only.

Flying jets in Korea, there is very little to do in the way of engine management. You set the throttle and pretty much just leave it alone between take off and landing. If you are in a prop fighter, it is comparable to the pilot workload in Great Battles. Also they aren't that much faster than the prop planes really unless you are in a jet vs. jet dogfight.

Overall, I prefer WW2 (especially the early to mid-war period), but I find WW1 dogfights more satisfying and exciting. The only tedious part is the slow, long flights without trim. As for Korea, the game looks great, but it's just not my cup of tea.

Beside some short 1v1 duels my experience with WW1 is coop against AI. That is fun for the mentioned reasons, planes are closer together, very cool in VR. Sometimes wild furballs develop and you are busy avoiding crashes. From time to time it is a nice change of pace from WW2. I am not very familiar with the planes and can barely recognize any WW1 plane but it is possible to get close enough to tell enemy and friend apart from their insignias and still take a shot.

With WW2 early spotting/id becomes much more important because an enemy plane can quickly close the distance, for example in a dive. I can rarely stay long enough behind a plane to waste precious moments trying to id it.

I assume with jets that this will be an even bigger aspect but I have not yet tried Korea.

Somehow surprising, the much improved graphics are making plane id easier in Il-2 Korea. Only exception might be Sabre vs Mig-15, if both are psinted silver.

@Nickkyboy99 same, yeah 😅

ww1: long flights to destination kills my sparetime.

and there are no high speed, high altitude, one pass boom and zoom attacks on enemy aircraft.

I like all three, but WWII is the best speed for me.  It is just the right closing speed for attacking enemy planes.  The closing speed of jets just crosses the line of being too fast for me.

Occasionally i start Rise of Flight, nice and simple for a quicky around the block mission. Some stuff hasn't even been beaten by FC

Well fellas, curiosity got the better of me and I went ahead and signed up for Korea! First impression is the devs certainly delivered on the improved graphics. The stunning visuals are a feast for the eyes.  But so far, it's been a humbling experience; all my attempts at flying a P-51 have swiftly ended with me corkscrewing into the ground. The modern planes are quite different and I need to practice starting from the basics again. Trim tabs, speed brakes, retractable landing gear, flaps... Flaps? What is flaps? 😆

Ah, that’s just an inflight switch from DVII to DrI ( or SE5 -> DH2 in case you are no Kraut ).

Nothing really complicated.
