1C Game Studios LukeFF Posted July 14 1C Game Studios Posted July 14 Korea: IL-2 Series truly comes into its own in virtual reality, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in its world and experience the aircraft's true scale and cockpits firsthand. It is currently a hot topic. In today’s dev blog, we share tips for configuring Korea: IL-2 Series for VR and discuss DLSS, FSR, OpenXR, and other technical details. AEthelraedUnraed Posted July 14 Posted July 14 Courageous of the Devs to deal with this topic, given the intensive and ongoing discussions. Much appreciated, and there are certainly a few good tips there! 2 1
Jade_Monkey Posted July 14 Posted July 14 Idk, the post reads like “it’s not us, it’s you!”. You are telling me the game is already perfectly optimized for VR? 3 7 AMD Ryzen 5800X3D | Nvidia RTX 4090 | 32 GB DDR4 | nVME SSD | VR headset: Pimax Dream Air SLAM
Dash,Polder Posted July 14 Posted July 14 I appreciate the multiple settings they've made accessible, between those and what my headset allows and the maze of windows tweaks I generally can find a sweet spot and than crank up graphical eye candy settings from there. Have enough confidence in what I've seen so far, my upgraded new higher resolution set arrives tomorrow. 🥽 1
YoYo Posted July 14 Posted July 14 (edited) Thank you for the dedicated text about VR! 👍 My short comment below. Additional note - IPD + and - does not work in OpenXR and Quest 😞 from the very beginning, you provide this as advice, but it does not work here (it works in IL-2 BoX for me, Quest). Any hot fix for this? Edited July 14 by YoYo 1 Home cockipt: GPU RTX5090, CPU i7 13900, RAM 64Gb. | Webmaster of yoyosims.pl. VR flying only.

Col.Sanders Posted July 14 Posted July 14 Very much not an us problem, just everyone else. GB was the best performing VR flight sim until high resolution headsets came. Then started falling behind, which makes sense now with their development starting in 2022 for the new engine. Also it very interesting how their previous reply line on quad views was it only helps 10% and now have lowered it to 5%. At some point they just need to admit they don't know how to implement VR any better, not that it can't be done.. Claiming there were the best in 2018 to claim credibility is disingenuous. I have a feeling when steam releases there will be a lot of VR users who buy them return the product based on terrible performance. 3

GiftGruen Posted July 14 Posted July 14 Not really. buy a x090 where x is still undefined but >5 just to be exact. Just now, Rocket_Knut said: Not a very satisfactory solution, is it?! Or Super? would be very interested in reports from your side. Rig - RTX5090 + i5-14600KF + Pimax Dream Air Content - Flying Circus 1-4 + IL2-BoX ( all sceneries ) + IL2-Korea
Uther Posted July 14 Posted July 14 Were all the pre release youtubers on their free pimax crystals just pretending everything was perfect? I don't remember any of them saying VR wasn't great... 2 2 9800X3D / Asus Radeon RX 7900 XT TUF OC / Corsair Vengeance EXPO 64GB / W11

Avimimus Posted July 14 Posted July 14 1 hour ago, Jade_Monkey said: Idk, the post reads like “it’s not us, it’s you!”. I took it as more 'it's not the engine, it is the technical problem'. That doing FSR & DLSS in VR isn't easy for a flight simulator in DX12... and than running anything that looks like 8K won't be easy on hardware, especially as it has to be rendered twice. ...with the recommendation that VR users will only be able to max out most of the graphics settings, but will have to lower a few graphics settings back down to Great Battles levels to get good performance in VR mode. 16 minutes ago, GiftGruen said: Unfortunately: not. 😉 That was my reading too - a 5090 won't make that much of a difference.

Have to remember that the standard for YouTubers is to play the game on potato settings in VR, then doing their voice over on a recorded track with the graphics cranked up. This helps give the illusion that the game is well optimized. 2

Super 57 ppd, it's the one driving closest to a crystal on resource use of all the supers, it's the easiest on the GPU with nearly identical image generation due to almost complete image overlap. In that other sim with eye tracking and deferred working it should blow a C light out of the water resolution wise. Guy I fly with can always out spot me by miles with his super. I require and want that ability. 1
Husar Posted July 14 Posted July 14 (edited) "A separate story here is that the widely advertised Foveated and Quadview modes turned out to be ineffective for applications developed for the modern DirectX 12 pipeline" . DX12 geometry instancing - DX12 multi-view rendering is It's an even simpler way to do instancing of geometry Edited July 14 by Husar 2 3
Picchio Posted July 14 Posted July 14 (edited) Bottom line: 1C won't implement QV because of 5% perf boost (with what settings, who knows) but users should consider spending over 4000 Euros or whatever insane price it is for other currencies in order to buy a 5090. This is beyond ridiculous. Edited July 14 by Picchio 1
lefuneste Posted July 14 Posted July 14 (edited) Well, this blog is a bit disapointing...I was expected information on VR progress to come, instead they are basically saying their game is nearly on top ! I have a lot of friends having good fps in VR with il2 GB, but struggling with Korea. Not even getting more than 50 fps, mostly...On my rig (5080) I just have much lower fps with any of Korea supersampling solution than native resolution, at the cost of a lower picture quality... They should have keep DX11 if DX12 is such a blocker. Another DX11 sim with quad view has better fps than Korea... Edited July 14 by lefuneste 8
GiftGruen Posted July 14 Posted July 14 Well. Better a honest BLOG with arguments than predicting something that will not happen. So I like at least that they adress the topic VR and are aware that this is an important thing. We are in early days of a new engine, so let‘s keep some balance in critizicing. I still hope they will optimize and maybe even ‚design decicions‘ can be reverted. 1 2 Rig - RTX5090 + i5-14600KF + Pimax Dream Air Content - Flying Circus 1-4 + IL2-BoX ( all sceneries ) + IL2-Korea
Aapje Posted July 14 Posted July 14 I would still like the 1CGS team reach out to mbucchia for a second opinion. Frankly, I don't believe that Nvidia puts even their second-best people on helping developers like 1CGS, and no 1CGS developer is going to be as knowledgeable as Matthieu on this topic. 1 5
