That's a bold statement when there are a bunch of people that feel that the last update pulled the rug out from under them.

What do you mean? Whenever I order my AI to return to base, it says, "I'm running out of fuel."

That’s a form of desertion, don't you think? 👌:classic_biggrin:

A lot of VR people are unhappy with the removal of options. If they do a lot of separate releases, there are going to be a lot of poorly tested changes that are going to impact players.

I don't really see where the issue is with the presets as they are now... you can still modify graphics options individually, so where is the problem?

Hi! There are far more settings associated with the preset itself than what is visible in the standard options menu. For instance, settings like Anisotropic Filtering are embedded there, options that aren't available in the regular settings menu (like in IL-2 GB). Some of these can be found in `startup.cfg`, though tweaking them requires manual editing, while others are hardcoded and completely inaccessible to the user. It’s not simply a case of "adjust a few other things to your liking and you'll get the same result."

Aha, understood!

So, does anybody know what the current "VR optimized" has or hasn't, in terms of graphics features that can't be controlled in the options menu?

I mean, is testing the game in VR with the current version a reliable scenario in terms of system performance? Or are we just seeing a "castrated" version of it?

All in all, 1C never actually specified the details regarding IL-2 GB and its presets, so I don't think this is officially known. We might just have to wait for the manual, where some of the options might be described in greater detail. Certain differences are definitely noticeable; for instance, "VR Optimized" results in a shorter texture draw distance but better object visibility, whereas "Balanced" mode allows you to see ground textures from further away, but objects disappear sooner.

And neither ground textures distance nor object visibility range can be forced through the startup.cfg?

I  remember that presets could be altered with mods in GB... do we still have .gtp files than can be extracted with the old tool? Has anyone tried?

Okay, this is off-topic, but I’m letting the handful of interested people know that simply trying to use an older version of gpresets.ini causes the game to crash right before reaching the menu. So the change has been made who knows where. Unfortunately, the file's contents are inaccessible (or perhaps unGTP needs an update—but who’s going to do that?), so we can only hope the developers realize what a huge blunder they’ve made with this update (without taking anything away from all the other improvements, of course). Ciao 😔
