I'm not sure I am an absolute fan of how the FM was changed for the P-51 with this patch, the original felt a bit more alive to me, and the gun runs I was making on trains looked so convincingly real, I was in absolute shock.  Yeah it was difficult but it looked just like the old clips, now it feels more like great battles, which is still pretty good, but it isn't like it was.

According to the changelog the Mustang hasn't been touched, what makes you think anything has changed?

Are there any videos that show changes to the effects now?

I really hate(d?) the cartoonish black smoke, flickering vapour and overall legacy effects brought over from BoX.

What do the updated ones look like now?

I haven't bought it yet as I am waiting for them to be improved/updated.

Cheers, MP

The main problem with the smoke is that they're too short, and if you don't look at them, they disappear. Turning your head toward them causes the smoke to start rising again, creating the effect of something fading and then re-igniting. It's a bit strange.

Not rendering effects like smoke when they are out of your field of view is a pretty common optimization to reduce system load.

But the smoke rendered in view is straight out of BoX and looks so unrealistic and cartoonish.

The next thing that came up after 002b was that square by the airport. When I turn on the HUD, why do I need it? I don't want that.... :classic_rolleyes:

Talking about airports, their names on map in multiplayer cover too much map area. I have to zoom extremely to see sourrounding area on map.

Groooovy

Been having too much fun!

This is the 1st weekend.. in like 10 years.. where I spent the whole day playing a flight sim!

Reminds me of the old Hyperlobby IL2 2001 days

No it isn't, it's fairly different.

Apparently there is a bug in a new patch - auto-rudder is permanently enabled!
This explains exactly why it felt different and my gun groups were so much better post patch.

The next day, this problem was solved. Everything is fine now and no any issue with the rudder.

It would be nice to see a new patch this week 👍. A new patch should be released every week, so we can keep track of the changes. I'm not talking about career or missions or more elements like buildins etc (new content), but about minor fixes that have been reported by users and would be worth fixing by August 4th.

They need to put the patch through internal beta testing (to help make sure they don't break everything)... so I suspect that a patch cycle of one week would be pretty infeasible (unless they were running multiple overlapping builds)!

That said, I wouldn't be surprised if there aren't some fixes which aren't on the changelog - they're still really actively developing most areas of the sim.

That's what beta testers are for, not the sort of stability all the guys shelling out putting up servers and burning their energy to develop functional game environments at their own expense really need.

That's right, I understand. However, there are a few issues that should be considered urgent as "hot fix", so honestly, a small patch like the recent 002b might be the way to go, fixing a few very important issues (for me, the fact that IPD + and - don't work in OpenXR, i.e. VR), which means I still have to use the OpenXR Toolkit that causes CTD. The rest can wait for me (but there would probably be a few important things).

I hope we get a fix for the Yak-9P AI issue soon.
