Plev Posted August 9 Posted August 9 Here is a bomb delivery method from Chucks Guide for the P-51D in DCS. I’ll post some material regarding ground attack methods in the Mustang here. I’m trying to compile reference material into charts and reference images for the F-51D, if anyone wants to help, feel free to hop in my discord community The Pub and let me know. https://discord.gg/KRwKV5QmZn 2

Seems to be speed-related; you can come down softly at 100mph yet 110 will launch you back into the air regardless of sink rate. Precisely how I see it. 2

Interestingly, it was fine, and the Mustang absorbed all bumps very well, not bouncing like it was on rubber. I don't know what happened. There was a moment during EA when it was fixed, but then the bug reappeared, as if some modification had used a model that wasn't the latest one, but a model from the old wardrobe. I hope they will fix it again. Home cockipt: GPU RTX5090, CPU i7 13900, RAM 64Gb. | Webmaster of yoyosims.pl. VR flying only.
YoYo Posted August 9 Posted August 9 (edited) I've also started taking exams. The first one—8 minutes—is definitely not enough. I completed the route in Combat Mode using the map, and the mission failed because I started a procedural approach, from the correct distance, no time simply for this, etc. (I also don't have the HUD enabled, because the IL-2 Series isn't War Thunder, and you're probably aiming for a more advanced player, right)? I think the mission is designed so that technique isn't judged, but rather flying like an idiot pushing everything to the limit (even in realistic settings), landing at about 150 MPH, bouncing into the airfield just to maintain speed... not piloting technique, but time. I'd like to request an increase in the time so that users who want to fly procedurally without any icons too can also have fun, 11 minutes will be ok I suppose. A total of 17 countries (including the ROK) fought on the Blue side, but right now it feels a bit like a "United States vs. the world" situation in the game. Besides the US, three countries flew the F-51 in Korea: the ROK, Australia and South Africa. Having some skins would be a nice historical touch, and enable campaigns for other Blue countries, that many of us may feel more attached to. 7

The real test will be to see if they decide to include the Commonwealth naval assets in the future DLC, it was a substantial part of the war effort. 3

В сравнении с США участие прочих стран в воздушной войне было ничтожным Но да, скины можно было бы и сделать

I think it was more or less the US vs North Korea/China/Russia. The US did all of the heavy bombing and flew the vast majority of the combat sorties.

And those reasons are: Meteor, Sea Fury, and Firefly 😀. 1

Valis Posted August 9 Posted August 9 The more countries the merrier. Even if it's only skins, it'll broaden the appeal. 3

The US did all of the heavy bombing and flew the vast majority of the combat sorties. In case of the F-51, a pretty significant minority of sorties was flown by the ROKAF, SAAF and RAAF. Also, if we purely look at the numbers, the NKAF shouldn't be there at all since it was more or less nonexistent during the timeframe of the game. The point is, the inclusion of the NKAF enables people to play a certain role. Having the above three nations would too, and the good thing is that we don't even need new aircraft for it, just skins. Somehow, it feels a bit strange to me to not be able to play the main protagonists of the war, the ROK, who were the defending party and without whose thousands of casualties (4x as much as the US) the world would probably look a lot different today. 6
Plev Posted August 9 Posted August 9 Fully agree. I’d like to see non USAF Mustangs represented. Loving my 67th FB Squadron Career though! Intense flying CAS!
Thorrior Posted August 9 Posted August 9 Some instruments in the F-51 are blocked by the gun sight padding, which is way too big. Is there a snap view that lets me look at the instrument panel? Although I'm using a head tracker, it's really annoying to have to move my head in an awkward position to read the instruments, which shouldn't be blocked by the gun sight. 1
Valis Posted August 9 Posted August 9 Try this... In-cockpit hold down Numpad_5 and keep it held down. Use to HOME and END to adjust your virtual head back and forth. When you're happy with the position hit F-10 to save it. Now you can release Num_5 (If you're trying to get a good view of the compass forget it - just have to lean a bit and you still can't see it all) 2

I think it may be caused by excessively tight head movement limitations. With 6 DoF head tracking there is no way to get a clear view of the clock (and directional gyro IIRC). 1

Valis Posted August 11 Posted August 11 Request for a tiny bit of white paint. To make setting the K-14C depression easier. Rough idea... k-14cmp4.mp4 Some pictures for reference 2 1
Valis Posted August 16 Posted August 16 Is there any way to know which K-14C gunsight mode you're in - Rockets or Guns - without using technochat? In the F-80 there's a ring that depresses on the throttle but I can't see anything similar for the Mustang.

In the F-80 there's a ring that depresses on the throttle but I can't see anything similar for the Mustang. I was wondering about this too. You just have to remember that the default setting is "Gun," so the next time you press the Cage button, you'll be using "Rockets." However, I've started using a slightly different method, which works quite well for me. I use the default setting of "Gun" (so dont touch it), stabilize my flight, and coordinate it with the crosshair (of course, the minimum distance plus -42, depending on the angle of attack). It works quite well without pressing the Cage button. It is important to check the wind direction in advance and attack with or against the wind, but not from the side. Valis Posted August 16 Posted August 16 (edited) If the K-14 was a field mod is it possible the F-51 just did not have the required controls to switch modes? In comparison the F-80 throttle switch suggests a deep integration of the K-14's functions rather than a simple bolt-on. Edited August 16 by Valis

Valis Posted August 17 Posted August 17 4 hours ago, LukeFF said: Yes, there's a button on the throttle grip. Thanks. Unfortunately unless you're at low throttle it's virtually impossible to see - but I've noticed the rocket's gyro reticle is much 'lazier' than the gun's, so that's how I think I'll figure it out during a flight. Here it is for anyone wondering... 1
PaperPilot Posted August 18 Posted August 18 I may have missed this, so please excuse this, but what variant(s) of the F-51D are in the game? D-25? D-30? 1
OreoBird_147 Posted August 18 Posted August 18 I haven't flown the F-51D in IL-2 Korea for a while, but I took her out for some pattern work today and I got to say the landing gear suspension behavior is much, much better now compared to when the game was still in early access. As a taildragger she's obviously still a little bouncy, I'm no perfect pilot either, but it does feel like the suspension does some actual work now and my landings have become much smoother and more pleasant.
