I have set this thread up for people to discuss what WWII aircraft they would like to have because I could find no official Wishlist for aircraft on this new forum; and so other threads don’t become a Wishlist themselves.

Apologies if I am irritating others or if I am doing something I am not supposed to do - I didn’t know if I am not.

Only rule for this thread - be reasonably nice to each other.

Here is my list:

Aircraft variants to train new modellers

Ju-87B-2

Pe-3 (give the Ju-88C-6 a rival of its own)

Bf-110F-2

LaGG 3 Series 66

Ju-88S

Mosquito Mk. IV

P-38G

P-40C

Pe-2 1944

Entirely new aircraft types

IL-4 (give the Soviets another bomber)

Hs-123

AI B-17 or B-24

MBR-2

Admittedly, any new aircraft types — WW2 or WW1 — at this point are dependent on people getting together to make them so just because one lists off a bunch of planes they want doesn’t mean the devs or modelling teams will automatically look into adding them to GBs.

I like lists. I write things down on lists all the time so I don't forget important tasks. But I'm not so sure the devs look at these kinds of lists except possibly for amusement. They will do only what they want to do as they always have. But list on if you must.

Pe-2 1944

I think for Battle of Odessa 1944, I think we definately need the Pe-2 Model 1944 (Series 359). Pilot career will be missing a huge gap because this plane filled a good part of an entire niche of a light bomber, heavy fighter and dive bomber.

I think there should be an official, professional poll on this forum with a possible (and reasonably vast) list of aircraft, so that every registered member entering forum sees this and can vote for up to 3 (or 5) aircrafts that he'd like have in 2027 or later (maybe even without seeing other member's votes and total votes number until he votes).

There could be also some other polls, like your favourite axis/allied aircrafts in IL2, (with up to 3-5 votes per member and hidden results till voted) etc. After some time there would certainly be a large number of votes and interesting results.

What do you think?

That could work.

Ju-87B-2

The Ju-87 B-2 would be amongst the top five aircraft most needed for Great Battles in Odessa and Leningrad 1941 career mode, as well as in Moscow because we are missing a Stuka for the latter, and I think they played a major part in the air campaign of Operation Typhoon.

...and would be great for BoF and BoB too...

That is actually another reason why I would like to see the B-2 in Great Battles. If someone wanted to make a cinematic video for YouTube using the Bodenplatte or Normandy map to recreate the Battle of France or Battle of Britain, then this would be a valuble asset.

BF109E4, Hurricane, BF110E, He111H6, and the Spitfire Vb with the invisible cannon skin by Off_Winters are from my point of view suitable for such a video and in my map mod I have removed the mid / late war RAF airfields in south England and I have deleted the concrete runways (only in south England).

As mentioned by you the Ju87 (and the Ju88) are not perfect for this due to the distinctive MG81 armament + the Canopy / Cooler of the D3 of course too.

I think a Finnish plane set is very likely, that is if they decide to do another batch of planes (I hope) after they have completed the list of planes announced in early March.

I totally 120% agree with you here. Such a game like Great Battles should not be left without an IL-4.

My list is mostly centered around early Eastern front planes:

Germans: Do17Z-2,Ju87B2,Bf110C4-7,Hs123

Soviets: Tupolev SB (not sure which variant would be best, maybe have 2-3 versions),Su2,DB3F

These planes are critical for 1941-mid 1942

I would have to totally agree with you there wth all these planes, but I think that the one that stands out most to me is the Tupolev SB-2. Very much a necessary plane that the game doesn't have yet. They formed the backbone of the Red Air Force's inventory of medium bombers before the IL-4 took over.

This is basically copy of someone else's list, but since iv become more informed about early war plane makeup i tend to agree that we are missing some important planes.

To me that doesn't matter if it is your original list or not. You're good.

I agree that we are missing a lot of planes in Great Battles from 1941-42. This might be a slightly controversial opinion but I think that even the Sukhoi Su-2 has a place in Great Battles, being depicted as the predecessor primary CAS aircraft before the IL-2 rose to great significance.

You guys better start finding third parties to work on all these planes if you ever want to see them in the game. 🙂

Do you want us to stop suggesting planes for Great Battles? If you do, we can stop

Well no, but you have to realize that at this point the only planes currently planned for GBs are 4 bombers, P-39Q, P-47M, and 2 Finnish planes. That's it. There is still the possibility that some 3rd party teams will get together to add a few more planes so it's better to suggest it to them than keep making aircraft lists because this game is very much completed.

The Finnish planes are not officially planned for release at this point.

That sucks.   I was hoping it wouldn't be so.

To me Il2 GB is still fresh cause i only got into it seriously 2 years ago.As far as I'm concerned i wouldn't need any beter graphics than this.Just expansion into more and more territory like early war and Pacific and North Africa and France and Battle of Britain and Defense of the Reich and Italy and Crete and Norway and maybe Spanish civil war and China-Japan conflict. And features like aircraft carriers and night fighter radar. And maybe some infantry on the ground to strafe. Is that too much to ask?
