PARALLEL 38 — MISSION ON DEMAND

Hey everyone , While I continue working on the original Parallel 38 concept, I’ve decided to temporarily change the server format and move it to a COOP-based “Mission on Demand” system.

The idea is to have the server permanently online, rather than running a continuous campaign.

Instead, players will gather in the lobby and coordinate with each other to start a mission. This also gives us an opportunity to bring back something many of us remember from the old days of HyperLobby. You would open HyperLobby, find an Open Mission, join the lobby, see who was around, gather a few pilots and simply fly.

MISSION ON DEMAND

The server will remain online permanently, waiting for players. Once at least 2 players are ready, a mission can be started. Missions will last approximately 1–1.5 hours and will be one-life only. This would also fix and give us more performance margins while we manage to keep the big version working.

Coordination will be essential.

These missions are specifically designed around teamwork and communication. They are not intended to be played as individual sorties. Without proper coordination between players, completing the objectives may be extremely difficult or even impossible. The remaining positions in each flight will be filled by AI, so the intended flight size is maintained even when only a few players are online. And yes! SRS is back and will be enabled for the server besides the Voice channels. Coordination is a must if you wanna survive!

Some missions may also allow both sides to be played by human players.

MISSION ROTATION

I’m also working on a system that will allow players to force a mission rotation if they join the lobby and the current mission is one they have already played. Something as simple as a chat:

!next

The server would then move to another mission from the available pool. The initial plan is to have around a pool of missions providing enough variety while keeping the server easy to jump into. That's the plan.

A LOT OF POSSIBILITIES

This system also opens the door to much more than simple standalone missions. Even if at start we don't have anything. In the own SDS the missions can be configured to once a mission is completed, the next one will be loaded.

For example, we could create a proper COOP campaign, where missions are connected and the outcome of one mission determines what happens next.

Complete Mission 1 → Mission 2 becomes available for everyone.

Fail Mission 1 → the next mission could change, or players might have to try again.

This could allow us to build branching campaigns, historical operations, different objectives and even persistent progression, while still keeping the simple “join and fly” philosophy.

This is a temporary format while I work on the original Parallel 38 concept, but I’m genuinely excited about the possibilities this system could offer.

Or who knows! maybe people like more this concept and we keep it.

Both this options of change mission and have some kind of mission progression is something novel that I hope also make you all enjoy the coop experience!

Hopefully, it will bring back some of that old HyperLobby Open Mission feeling, while giving us a completely new way to experience Parallel 38. Let's try it out.

When? Tuesday 1st September

Can't wait to check to check it out, will be there on the 1st!  I know these are still early days, but really think there should be a couple of good PvE servers up.  There are a lot of older guys/newer players in the community that won't touch PvP and there aren't a ton of PvE options out there.  Thanks for the work!

Sorry buddy. Thanks for your work on making missions for us, it looks awesome!  I was just losing my mind as well with a cursor going crazy in menus etc.  I got that fixed and thought I was totally losing my mind with this not opening. 🤪

Got to fly around a bit.  Forced to drop my ordinance when I noticed Fang's over the target.  Shot them down, got a fuel line puncture from local CPLA troops and got bounced by another set of Fangs on the way home.

Good job on the server.  Will check it out further this week end.
