Blitzen Posted December 10, 2025 Posted December 10, 2025 Has anyone ever built a full on D-Day mission, with any allied of Axis aircraft. A mission with a full on invasion fleet and German defense mounted against it , perhaps with believable airial assault. In a way the GB Normandy addition kind of promised such a posibiility , but if one has come along I've missed it.
sandmarken Posted December 10, 2025 Posted December 10, 2025 If you've flown the Overlord campaign by Jaegermeister, that's pretty impressive. If not actually D-Day, it's the days around the invasion. It's certainly possible to build a scenario around the day, but nowhere near that scale because no PC would manage to run it. Not sure why nobody tried a lite version, but I guess one reason is that players don't like the channel crossing, so missions after landing with airbases in france is more popular.

There are a few D-Day missions actually. The Waco Glider Scenario Mission, The C-47 Scenario Mission, 1 in Gestapo Hunters at night, 1 in Hornet's Nest at night and as you mentioned, also in Overlord. The problem you mentioned is correct. To show that many invasion ships other than the static sunken cargo ships will bring any existing computer to it's knees in a hurry. If you did for example, Pips Priller strafing the Invasion beach in an FW 190, it would be a slide show. Each ship is a complex vehicle and you would need many hundreds of them but the game engine does not support that many at a time without significant time dilation. I remember how amazed I was back in the day playing Medal of Honor's D-Day mission. I do think it also had a reduced scale! 😅 The best thing would be if Blitzen learned the editor and made it himself. There are so few people sharing missions; it's a real shame. I am sure a lot of people have the historical knowledge and the artistry to make really cool stuff, just not knowing how to operate the editor. 2

Performance was actually not that bad, because I've used the static versions that are available for some of the transport ships, but time acceleration was no longer possible. One problem was, that we don't have static versions of landing craft and destroyers. 1 1

No_85_Gramps Posted December 17, 2025 Posted December 17, 2025 What was the mission name? I can look through what I have to see if I still have it. 1

I keep looking out for missions, downloaded many, but found many produced by members are not always to my liking. So i stick to a few mission makers only. It's just too hard to find good ones without a sort of quality rating like stars. The ones i made that seem reasonably OK took me a long time to make (especially due the fact that you need two separate programs for testing unlike f.i. with DCS) , and only then i post a download link. When started with the AQMB or Vander tools i usually change a few things, but most of 'em are mainly the work of others and i keep them for my self.
