Vulture Posted October 17 Posted October 17 Provide commands to move pilot head position in VR (Left/right/up/down/forward/aft) to set default position, same as non-VR commands. Vulture. 2 1
Vulture Posted October 17 Author Posted October 17 Need way to adjust pilot seat position up and down in VR. All aircraft have seats that move up and down, to adjust for taxi, using gunsight, and approach to see over the nose. This will be especially critical with upcoming carrier planes. Need an UP and DOWN command that moves seat as long as held (toggle). 2 3

Husar Posted October 17 Posted October 17 I move my head to desired position and save it - F10 also I bind keypad 5 on joystick to reset the view to the new default position.
Dash,Polder Posted October 17 Posted October 17 Easiest way to do it is bend forward head down, than hit your center view button which should also have the vectorXR or Necksafer center riding on the same switch. When you put your head back up you'll be higher in the cockpit with canopy open. Once you launch or close the canopy and are ready to resume normal gun sight picture hit the button again. It's that quick and easy.
Vulture Posted October 17 Author Posted October 17 Yeah, that's what I have to do now, and it is a real PITA if you want to move forward or back at the same time! If DCS and other flight sims can provide moving seats and moving pilot eye position in VR as well as 2D, there is no excuse for IL2 to not do so also.

While it might not be as critical for land-based operations, the upcoming "Carrier OPS" expansion makes such a feature absolutely essential. In my view, 1C has an issue here that needs to be addressed; for instance, in VR, you cannot even shift your seating position to get a closer look at the gauges, even though the game itself supports such adjustments. The "RShift + PgUp/PgDn" keybinds don't work for me in VR, so I’m very curious to see how they’ll resolve this. Take the Corsair, for example: with its long nose, the aircraft carrier is completely invisible from the pilot's standard seating position during landing, a problem handled much better in the F4U modules for DCS or MSFS. Such an option is simply a must; relying solely on the "F10 save" feature won't suffice. I fully agree that the "point of view" needs to be adjustable, offering at least two positions: a standard one (which could be saved via the F10 function like now) and a "landing view", a raised position that could, perhaps, be linked to opening the cockpit canopy during flight via a dedicated keybind. It’s worth noting that this is already implemented in DCS, where many aircraft allow for such adjustments, even enabling the pilot to smoothly fine-tune their vertical eye position. You can actually do that. Position your head where you want it and press F10; that will become your new saved view (will overwrite default positions). I use this in every aircraft, because in all the planes from IL-2 Korea, the pilot's head is positioned too far back from the front instrument panel and gunsight. 1 Home cockipt: GPU RTX5090, CPU i7 13900, RAM 64Gb. | Webmaster of yoyosims.pl. Vulture Posted October 18 Author Posted October 18 Yes I know about that - It's what I use also. But in 2d there are simple key commands to move your head (and seat), those need to be in VR also - mainly for up down (or have a moving seat command like a real plane!). Some planes also let you move the seat forwards and backwards, to get the right eye position. Again, already works in 2d, needs to work in VR (DCS allows it, for example - and the upcoming Combat Pilot).

Dash,Polder Posted October 19 Posted October 19 Think you'd be better off asking for a second F-10 style saved positioning point, with a key to swap between those points in VR, just like the gun sight view in Great Battles. I don't see much advantage in multiple sets of key commands adjusting the views in VR, too complex and nearly pointless anyway, when you can already simply move and F-10 it. You just need another F-10 type save point or two.
Dash,Polder Posted October 19 Posted October 19 You should ask for another saved position point command like the gun sight shift eye command in Great Battles, and have that one also set by F-10 when your in it, so you can put it where you want, and able to shift in and out from normal view with a button press.
Vulture Posted Friday at 07:53 PM Author Posted Friday at 07:53 PM Why is this so complicated? - The seat needs a height adjustment that works in VR, just like in the plane - Other VR sims have no problem providing real-time pilot "camera" position adjustment in VR. - F-10 is fine - but it's just the baseline position. I don't fly with the same position all the time, in the real plane I would move the seat. 1
Dash,Polder Posted Saturday at 02:21 AM Posted Saturday at 02:21 AM Thing is did any of these actually have an adjustable seat. Doubtful.
FuriousMeow Posted Saturday at 04:04 AM Posted Saturday at 04:04 AM (edited) The F51 and F4U did, I'd have to look up the others but it isn't something that's rare. Its just two positions, raised and lowered. Edited Saturday at 04:05 AM by FuriousMeow

Take-off and Landing Instructions – Cockpit Preparation (F9F Panther) "Open the canopy before turning onto the final approach. This provides unobstructed vision, eliminates windscreen glare, and facilitates emergency egress in the event of a ditching or barrier engagement. Ejection Seat / Bucket Height: Procedure: Before entering the downwind circuit or commencing the final approach, the pilot should raise the seat to the full UP position." Most, if not all, also on the Korean side and this is normal. Low (flight). High (Taxi, landing). The only thing is, it's not about adding any buttons to move around the entire cockpit. There should simply be two positions, normal and landing, under the buttons, or assignable to the joystick. That would completely solve the problem. Dash,Polder Posted Saturday at 03:07 PM Posted Saturday at 03:07 PM Ummm, no, because if you bothered to look putting the seat up any further on many of these aircraft introduces clipping problems through the canopy like the mustang, it's already clipping with the mirror when open. They are not made to exact scale from scans, bit late in the ball game to be trying to do this. They're not going to rework cockpits just for a moving seat.
Vulture Posted 22 hours ago Author Posted 22 hours ago All US ejection seat were (and still are) height adjustable. Usually an electrical switch, either on the seat or next to it. Older US fighters also had adjustable height seats, often with a lever on the right side to raise and lower the seat pan. A6Ms definitely had an adjustable seat - just compate photos of A6M taking off or inflight! There is already an option to allow clipping or not. In VR I always (if possible) deselect it, because stopping your head in VR is visually jarring. I'm a big boy, I know that I shouldn't stick my head through the canopy! But I also want to be able to look ouside when the canopy is open. You can already move the camera in 2D, how is VR any different? I'm OK with splitting the seat adjustment into a separate UP/DOWN control, with limits on how much the physical seat moves. But there also needs to be up, down, left, right, forward, aft controls IN VR to allow setting the pilots DEFAULT eye position, which then can be saved via F10. Not all pilots were the same height, or had a preferred seating position, so the option needs to be there. DCS has it all in VR (including both eye postion and moving seat), so why not Korea (or all IL-2, for that matter?). And in Korea I don't need a visually moving seat - I'm sitting on it, not looking at it! May I suggest a little research into contemporary cockpits? Cheers

No, after you have reset your VR position so the headset it aligned correctly, you just move up/down/forward/aft (and rarely, left/right) to where you eyepoint would be in the plane, then save that as the new default position. Now from there, you can use the seat adjustment (in DCS) to move up and down within the limits of the seat, like IRL.
