Can't assign WinCtrl Ursa Minor Throttle axis in Sturmovik

The ursa minor combat throttle Metal.ex from WinCTRL has these buttons integrated in the throttle axis travel, that cannot be de-activated, so as long as I move the throttle axis to assign it, Sturmovik assigns the buttons and not the axis.

Anyone knows hot to do it ?

Thanks

Hey zaGURUinzaSKY

I had the same issue and just figured out a solution, but you're going to need to edit the game settings files manually

Under the game install directory, you will find a `data\input` directory.
In there there are two files to edit

1. First of all, open the file named `devices.txt`. In there there is a list of all input devices detected by the game. Each device has an index number, you're going to need to find the device configId of the throttle, which is the first number of the line.

For example here's my `devices.txt` file

configId,guid,model|
0,%22fc2c72ce-c746-11f1-5453454400000280%22,Saitek%20Pro%20Flight%20Rudder%20Pedals|
1,%22172b5b5d-c80d-11f1-5453454400000280%22,WINCTRL%20URSA%20MINOR%20Combat%20Throttle%20Metal.EX|
2,%22172b67aa-c80d-11f1-5453454400000380%22,Winwing%20WINCTRL%20URSA%20MINOR%20Combat%20Joystick%20R|

Here my device configId of my throttle is 1.
If you can't find your throttle in there, try renaming this file to something the game doesn't expect so that it creates a new one. Then unplug all unnecessary devices and restart the game, it should pick it up.

2. Now that you have your throttle index, you're going to need to open a second file in this directory called `global.actions`. This is the actual mapping file for the global profile. In there let's say you want to bind the "All Engines Throttle" action, you're going to need to find the `rpc_all_engines_throttles` action and add a new line bellow that looks like the following:

rpc_all_engines_throttles, joyXX_axis_YY, 0|

Replace the XX with the throttle index you found previously, and the YY with the axis to use. And this is where it gets finicky because I'm not sure the axis names are the same in every setup. In my case the right throttle axis is `s`  and the device configId of the throttle is 1 so the line I had to insert becomes:

rpc_all_engines_throttles, joy1_axis_s, 0|

Another example for the left axis, which is `w` in my case

rpc_all_engines_props_pitch, joy1_axis_w, 0|

If this doesn't work because the axis names aren't the same,  try `rx` or `ry` which should be consistent with what SimAppPro announces.  I'm doing this on Linux and not Windows so your mileage may vary 🙂

A word of caution: be careful when you're editing the files as IL2 seems to be very strict with the format of those files, use a text editor that doesn't change the encoding or the line endings (CRLF)  like NotePad++
https://notepad-plus-plus.org/. If IL2 can't understand those files it will get stuck at the end of the initial loading screen, loading forever.

Another option is to use something  like https://github.com/WhiteMagic/JoystickGremlin to create a virtual device that only captures the axis and not those cursed travel buttons.

Hope this helps, and happy flying.

EDIT:

I ended up going with the virtual joystick solution, using an alternative to JoystickGremlin for Linux called Joyful https://codeberg.org/annabunches/joyful which is a hidden gem 🙂. Definitely worth taking a look!
