Help Needed: Missing awards.cfg after extracting scg.gtp & Missing Tracker Textures

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to get IL-2 Campaign Tracker to display the correct medal names and textures for my Career Mode. The promotions and dates are showing up fine, but all the awards are displaying as raw codes (e.g., award_101039), and the images are missing entirely.

I understand that the Tracker requires loose files in the data\scg\2\ directory, specifically awards.cfg, along with related .dds texture files, to map these codes properly.

Here is what I have tried so far:

  1. Extracting scg.gtp: I used the unGTP-IL2.exe tool as recommended. It generated a (null) folder, but the scg folder inside it is missing the 2 subfolder and the awards.cfg file. It seems the tool hit an "unknown format" error and failed to extract the complete structure.

  2. Extracting campaigns.gtp: I successfully extracted campaigns.gtp and placed the contents into data\campaigns.

  3. File Merging: I copied both the campaigns and scg folders from the (null) folder into the game's data directory, merging them with any existing files.

  4. Basic Settings: I confirmed that "Enable Mods" is checked in the game settings, and I have cleaned up excess missionReport...txt files in the data folder.

Current Issue:
Despite these steps, the Campaign Tracker web page still shows missing textures and raw codes. I suspect the unGTP-IL2 tool just doesn't fully support scg.gtp.

My Requests:

  1. Would anyone be kind enough to share the original data\scg\2\awards.cfg file, or the entire scg folder if possible?

  2. Alternatively, does anyone know which .gtp file contains awards.cfg? Or is there a more reliable tool (like GTP Archive Extractor) that can properly extract scg.gtp? Any download links or advice would be highly appreciated.

  3. On a side note, after importing the campaigns.gtp extraction, why are the textures still missing in the Tracker? Do I also need to extract something like graphics.gtp?

Thank you very much for your time and any help you can provide!

Are you talking about IL-2 Great Battles OR IL-2 Korea?

IL-2 GB has a different folder structure than IL-2 Korea.
GB: <path to your game>\data\scg\Scripts\13Awards.cfg, 15Awards.cfg, 18Awards.cfg, 22Awards.cfg, 32awards.cfg, 33awards.cfg and 37awards.cfg. The 2-digit number in front of awards.cfg represents the theatre of action (Stalingrad, Moscow, Kuban, Leningrad, etc). -
Korea: <path to your game>\data\scg\2\awards.cfg (only 1 awards.cfg is in this folder)

So let's first clarify about what game we are talking about and take it from there.

AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D; MSI MPG X870E CARBON WIFI Motherboard; ASRock Taichi Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB; CORSAIR Vengeance RGB 64GB (2 x 32GB) DDR5 6000; 2x SK Hynix Platinum P41 M2 SSD 2TB; CORSAIR RMx Series RM850x ATX Power Supply; Arctic Liquid Freezer III Pro 360 A-RGB AIO; MONTECH KING 95 PRO Dual-Chamber ATX Mid-Tower, LG - UltraGear 45" OLED Dual Mode (5K2K WUHD 165Hz, WFHD 330Hz)

yes,that is IL-2GB,but after I decompressed the scg.gtp file,I couldn't find any awards.cfg files inside,none at all:(

@Arrow_1974

I’m not sure if this issue is caused by my downloading IL2GB on Steam, and I’ve seen the path you mentioned in Rank Mod before.

unGTP still works with IL-2 Great Battles (unlike IL-2 Korea, where the archive format changed with update 1.005).

The awards files are not in Scg.gtp. They are in Scripts.gtp:

  1. Unpack Scripts.gtp with unGTP.
  2. The files end up in a folder like this: <your game folder>\data\(null)\scg\scripts\ The "(null)" part comes from unGTP itself; it's just how the tool names its output folder.
  3. In there you'll find all the xxawards.cfg files, for example: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\(null)\scg\scripts\13awards.cfg
  4. Copy the file you want to edit to: <your game folder>\data\scg\scripts\ (the same path, but without "(null)").
  5. Enable mods in the game. Only then does it read the loose file instead of the one inside the archive.

Let me know if that helps.

Hello Arrow_1974,

The method you described is correct,but,I've been trying to get the Campaign Tracker fully working for the past two days, I've reached the absolute limit of my technical capabilities.I’m also sorry, but perhaps due to my limitations, I couldn’t find any TXT files or other documentation in the campaign tracker that would adequately guide me through all the installation steps.

Despite following the community's advice to extract scg.gtp and graphics.gtp to find the necessary awards.xaml and .dds files, I simply cannot locate them. This entire process has consumed around two full days of my time, and I have to admit that I am unable to solve this on my own.

Before I give up completely, I have a specific question regarding the "Mod Manager" tab inside the Tracker's settings:

If I use the Mod Manager to download and install the Rank Mod or other components, will that automatically handle the installation of the necessary texture files (like awards.xaml and the .dds files) for the web page to display the correct images?

Or, does the Tracker's web interface always require the user to manually extract and place those specific files from the .gtp archives, regardless of how the mod was installed?

I really want to enjoy this amazing tool, but the manual file extraction is proving to be impossible for me. Any idea would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time and hard work.

Hello,

I'm really sorry you've spent two days on this. The good news: you don't need to extract anything for the images. The advice to unpack scg.gtp or graphics.gtp and look for awards.xaml and .dds files doesn't apply to the Campaign Tracker. It ships all its own rank and award images.

What the installer does: it copies the images to <your IL-2 folder>\data\swf\CampaignRanksAwards\ with one subfolder per country (Germany, Britain, US, USSR, Misc …). The web pages read the images from there.

To your Mod Manager question: no, the Mod Manager has nothing to do with the images. It only installs optional game mods (the Rank Mod and the Cockpit Photo Editor). The tracker shows its images with or without them.

If you see no images, please check two things:

  1. Does the folder exist? Open <your IL-2 folder>\data\swf\CampaignRanksAwards\. If it's missing or empty, the installer was most likely pointed at the wrong folder. Run the installer again and select the IL-2 main folder, the one that contains the data folder, e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad
  2. Is the same folder set in the tracker? In the Settings Manager, check that the game directory points to that same IL-2 main folder.

The only thing that ever needs extracting is the standard campaigns, and you don't need unGTP for that either. In the Settings Manager, use "Import Standard Campaigns" and it does it for you.

If it still doesn't work, please tell me:

  • which folders you see in data\swf\CampaignRanksAwards\;
  • which game directory is set in the Settings Manager;
  • whether you're using Campaign mode or Career mode.

Then we'll find it quickly.

解包scg.gtp或graphics.gtp并寻找awards.xaml和.dds文件的建议不适用于Campaign Tracker。

<your IL-2 folder>\data\swf\CampaignRanksAwards\

再次运行安装程序,选择包含该 文件夹的IL-2主文件夹,例如:<your IL-2 folder>\data\swf\CampaignRanksAwards\data C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad

  • 你在 data\swf\CampaignRanksAwards\;
  • 设置管理器中设置了哪些游戏目录;

@Arrow_1974,

Thank you so much for your quick and clear reply! You were absolutely right, and I really appreciate you pointing me in the correct direction.

The issue was exactly what you suspected: I had selected the wrong installation directory during the initial setup.

After completely uninstalling the Tracker and reinstalling it while making sure to select the main game root directory (the one containing bin and data), the texture files were successfully generated in the data\swf\CampaignRanksAwards\ folder. Now all the medal images and promotions display perfectly on the web page!

I also want to apologize for the confusion earlier. I spent two days trying to extract .gtp files and manually find awards.xaml and .dds files, which turned out to be completely unnecessary. Thank you for clarifying that the Tracker handles this automatically and that the Mod Manager is only for optional game mods.

Thank you again for your patience, your hard work, and this amazing tool. It has completely transformed my IL-2 career experience!
