R33GZ Posted October 3 Posted October 3 The FW190 G Series has an injection boost system that allows increased engine pressures up to 1km alt, it can remain activated for up to 10min before the engine timer kicks in. My question is, if you leave it activated above 1km, does the 10 min engine timer still apply? Or does it revert to the standard 3min? Just curious, I suspect the timer is entirely dependant on whether or not the boost toggle has been pulled

I have found something out also. The boost must be disengaged at 1000m, or rather, over 1000m you are back to a 3min timer, but, when you hit the second supercharger gear at 3000m, it appears the boost can be re engaged for another 10min timer, but you need to keep an eye on the pressure gauge, when it drops back down to an un boosted reading, you are back to the 3min limit 1
Dash,Polder Posted Sunday at 08:04 PM Posted Sunday at 08:04 PM It don't care about altitude, just make sure your full 100% on throttle.

R33GZ Posted Sunday at 08:13 PM Author Posted Sunday at 08:13 PM Its all a bit moot really I spose, at 4k a fully loaded G series 190 flys like a brick
Dash,Polder Posted Sunday at 08:25 PM Posted Sunday at 08:25 PM Wrong, select a G-8 remove the 131 nose guns, set altitude above 3K meters and switch boost system on, full throttle, it must be 100%. The exceed emergency power time message comes on precisely at the ten minute mark and zero engine damage yet. Throttle back into combat power for a while and than back up, been doing that for ages. You can run in a G series ten minutes full out, are you sure your not doing it in an F, they are a bit different creatures altogether.

Uh, not sure how you got confused there.... that is exactly what I was saying. However, between roughly 1000m and 3000m you are more or less stuck with the 3min timer in emergency mode as the boost is no longer in action due to the super charger gears - you can see it fall off if you watch the ata gauge. Or in other words, the boost system works as advertised between 0 - 1000m and 3000 - 4000m. The specification notes state only that the C3 boost can be used up to 1000m And a fully loaded G8/G3 has to have the nose weapons disabled to select the 3x 250kg armament, so no, definitely not getting confused with the other models
MaxPower Posted Tuesday at 09:09 PM Posted Tuesday at 09:09 PM This is fascinating. I didn't know that the G-8 (and maybe A-5U17?) has boost in the second supercharger gear as well as the first. I knew the erhohte notleistung system in the A-8 had increased boost in second gear. The behaviour you're describing makes sense when I look at the Il2 Compare tests that Count Zero did. Starting from 0m, the first super charger gear is engaged and the throttle is wide open, instead of having the first gear throttled. It's producing as much boost as it's capable of from the ground, around 1.58 ata. As it climbs, the supercharger gear has less air to compress. At about 1500m, the manifold pressure has dropped to the level of normal Emergency Power (1.42 ata), and the spraying stops, and normal-old Emergency Power begins. Count Zero didn't test the system in the second supercharger gear. However, it sounds like when the second gear kicks in at about 3000m, the throttle opens wider than emergency power and starts spraying C3 again, maintaining 1.58 ata (1.65 ata?). This condition would remain until the throttle is wide open on the second super charger gear and manifold pressure has dropped down to 1.42 ata, which is at about 6200m for the A-8. 1
