taffy2 Posted September 28 Posted September 28 Hi, Just one question, I am thinking of buying Korea and will have to upgrade my rig, so would the following be sufficient. CPU - 11th gen, intel i5-11600k [installed] RAM- 16Gb [installed] GPU- MSI GeForce RTX 5050 8 Gb [ upgrade to this graphics card ] Cheers
AndreiTomescu Posted September 28 Posted September 28 Taffy, mate, from my own experience on 2k monitor, things are bitter-sweet: on your current rig you can still run korea, but with heavy limits. Upgrading to a 16 GB gpu will improve alot Despite i have never seen the game to eat up more than 15.5 GB ram, this might be a limit Your cpu is bound to present a challenge, also: i'm on a 9700x and still struggle compared to any X3D ones. The game really worth its specs and money, but it's not great at the optimisation chapter, so in the nearby future you'll certainly want a better rig. Oreoreeeoyeero!
taffy2 Posted September 28 Author Posted September 28 Thanks Andrei, As always you are first in with a sensible solution. Cheers
Aapje Posted September 28 Posted September 28 The 5050 is fairly poor value and is quite slow, so I would advise something better. In general, we are at a situation where GPUs improve very slowly, which means that it makes more sense to switch to a strategy of spending more and then using it for a long time. Ideally, a 16 GB card, like the 9060 XT 16 GB, 5060 Ti 16 GB or 9070. A 16 GB card should also keep its value way better on the 2nd hand market in the future. Unfortunately, prices are bad due to the AI bubble right now, so the cost is very high for what you get. AMD GPU's seem to be less impacted by the price changes and AMD GPUs probably work better with the Korea engine than the GB engine, so keep that in mind. I would stick with the same CPU & RAM for now. But if the AI bubble pops and prices come down, I would upgrade those if possible. Especially see the cost per frame chart: And here you can see a recent pricing overview:
taffy2 Posted September 28 Author Posted September 28 Thanks Aapje, I appreciate that excellent advice and use for future reference. Cheers
AndreiTomescu Posted September 28 Posted September 28 3 hours ago, Aapje said: 16 GB card, like the 9060 XT 16 GB This card has no sweat on 2k flat (myself) uncapped runs at monitor max 180 fps and doesn't stay at 100% usage. At 80 fps capped goes at about 60% usage. Also on vr performes very good (Sandmarken). The cpu, for me, is the bottleneck. Oreoreeeoyeero!
