I recently found an old book ‘The Edge of the Sword’ about the Korean War and soon discovered there was a USAF F-80C ground strike graphically described in detail in the book.

This mission closely simulates what actually happened. The British ‘Gloster’ Battalion was stubbornly holding ground on the west bank of the Imjin River which was the front line at that time.

The British Officers soon discovered they were hopelessly outnumbered by a large Chinese force amassing on the northern bank of the River. This prompted them to call-in an urgent air strike to impede the Chinese forces.

Fly the mission and help defend the British Battalion! The Battalion was eventually overrun by the Chinese army with the survivors captured and then finally released at the end of the Korean war. If you get hold of a copy of the book it is an amazing read.
