On the morning of the 22^nd Dec 1950, Sabre's from the 334^th FS, 4thFW had unsuccessfully patrolled over Pyongyang and the Yalu River, only spotting a few Migs which soon disappeared back to their airfields.

CO of the 4^th FW, Col. John C. Meyer was determined to flush the Migs back into combat. That afternoon he ordered a major Sabre Fighter sweep over Pyongyang and the Yalu River.
