Apparent angular size of distant planes?

I'm not complaining, just curious from a design point of view.

Are distant planes being artificially enlarged to aide spotting?

Another sim dev once told me that making a planes twice as large was the same thing as making it fly half as fast.  I don't think I ever quite wrapped my head around that, but playing IL2K reminded me of that.

I noticed far distant planes looked larger than I would have expected and seemed to be moving in slow motion.  If true, maybe a setting slider would be cool to dial that in to peoples preferences.
