Here are some highlights from the review over at Tally-Ho Corner:

Maybe the sortie choices presented via the map at the start of the day need to be rated according to risk and reward. Feeling brave or fatalistic? Tackle a particularly hot target! Feeling bruised or weary? Do the bare minimum to keep your superiors happy and the present op on track.

I was a little surprised not to find fatigue bars in pilot files. The only reason to shift fliers from the ‘active’ to the ‘reserve’ sections of the squadron management interface seems to be injury or death. Weirdly, the game doesn’t do this kind of housework for you.

Aware of forum reports of reluctant wingmen, I’ve been keeping an eye out for malingering AI aircraft this week. While it would be nice if a few of my comrades strafed, rocketed, and bombed as energetically and effectively as I do, most seem to get stuck in and contribute something to the mission. Happily, I’ve not seem anyone plough into the ground for no reason either.

Currently, career mode provide a pleasing sense of continuity, and offers choices and activities unavailable in campaigns. What it doesn’t seem capable of doing is surprising, stretching, or scaring sentient squadron leaders all that often. I suspect this slightly strange state of affairs won’t last long, but until things change there’s always Home by Christmas (the linear campaign) and custom missions.
