SRS for IL-2 Community Edition – Multiplayer Radio for Korea & Great Battles

Hi everyone,

I would like to introduce SRS for IL-2 Community Edition, a free and open-source multiplayer radio application for IL-2 Korea and IL-2 Sturmovik: Great Battles.

SRS provides dedicated radio communications with separate channels, Push-to-Talk controls, radio effects and compact in-game overlays. It automatically receives aircraft, coalition and server information from IL-2 when connected to an SRS-enabled multiplayer server.

Main features

The radio overlay provides quick access to both radios, crew intercom, channel controls, player counts and transmit/receive indicators. It can be resized, repositioned and adjusted for transparency.

For server administrators

The server component is included in the download. Server owners can configure coalition security, channel limits, names for all 25 channels, optional squad labels, realistic transmission behavior and receive-collision effects.

Servers can also provide Pilot Roster data, allowing players to see friendly pilots, assigned callsigns and their selected radio channels.

Installation

Only one copy of SRS is required, even if both IL-2 games are installed.

1. Close IL-2 before installing or updating SRS.
2. Download and run the auto-updater.
3. Install SRS in the recommended Program Files location, not inside either game folder.
4. Start SRS, select your microphone and speakers, and configure your Push-to-Talk controls.

For reliable overlays, use IL-2 in Windowed or Borderless mode. Normal Windows overlays cannot reliably remain visible over exclusive fullscreen applications.

SRS is community maintained and remains compatible with existing IL2-SRS servers and clients. Please report problems or suggestions through the support buttons on the application’s Help tab.

Why are SRS AI features not working in combat box Korea? 
 

Even in GB combat box things are not as good as they used to be… AI SRS used to callout enemy sightings, give updates about target conditions, etc…

 

nobody is even using SRS in Korea… this needs some series attention or it’s just going to fade away… need to have a compelling advantage over discord, beyond simple communication.

The SRS AI features in Great Battles is a feature of an independent radio bot, not SRS itself, and that still has to be ported over to Korea.

Didn't find it because the German version was split between "Grundeinstellungen" (means basic settings, the "General" option in the English version) and "Feineinstellungen" (means advanced settings, in the English version only the "Settings") and of course I searched the language settings in the basic settings. It was in the "Feineinstellungen". The German version is strange.

• Pilot Roster for IL-2 Korea now displays each player’s assigned callsign, aircraft, and spawn airfield when the connected server provides the data.
• Airfields use clear three-letter codes, with the full airfield name shown when hovering over the code.
• Added sortable Pilot Roster columns, including callsign, pilot, aircraft, airfield, and radio channels.
• Improved IL-2 Korea support: SRS now detects Steam Korea installations using the IL2Series folder and IL2Series.exe, including renamed Steam install folders.
• Fixed Korea UN/CF Command and Airfield service accounts appearing as pilots with missing callsigns.

Close IL-2 before updating. Server owners do not need to update for the Steam detection or Korea service-account fixes.

If I have the old version installed in a dedicated folder (not program files). Can I install the new version into that same folder .. i.e. over the top of it and retain all the setup info, keybindings etc ?

Yes. Settings, profiles and key bindings carry over either way.

Newer versions keep user settings in %AppData%\IL2-SRS rather than the program folder. During install, the installer finds your existing SRS copy, backs up its settings, and copies them into %AppData%\IL2-SRS. That includes global.cfg, your profiles and key bindings, favourite servers, and any input-device whitelist or blacklist. The final message shows where your settings went and where the backup is.

The installer's folder box starts at C:\Program Files\IL2-SimpleRadio-Standalone, not your current folder. So:

To install over your dedicated folder: change the folder box to that folder before clicking Install / Update IL2-SRS.
If you leave the default: SRS installs to Program Files, and the installer offers to consolidate your old copy. It copies your settings across, then removes only the SRS program files from the old folder; your .cfg files stay there. Afterwards, use the new shortcut or C:\Program Files\IL2-SimpleRadio-Standalone.
Close IL-2 before installing; the installer closes SRS itself. The only folder it won't accept is one inside an IL-2 game folder. In that case it asks to use the recommended location.
