Make objects visible from longer ranges (triggers discussion)

Here, I'd also add added objects that are targets, such as vehicles, artillery, etc. Sometimes, at maximum zoom, you can't even see them until you're relatively close. However, all of this is for performance. If this were to come at the cost of performance, it's best not to touch them.

Units are often linked to a trigger that activates them when the player/s are within a certain distance as part of the mission design. So not saying that you are wrong about LODs but pointing out that there could be another reason in that possibly the unit has not even spawned so there is nothing to see until you get close enough and then suddenly, they will spawn and be visible.

I know I made a lot of posts for IL2GB trying to convince people to use a larger radius trigger for activating AAA -especially heavy AAA with slow rotation speeds and slow rate of fire- so the guns would have time after spawning to figure out there was an enemy, turn, aim and engage before the aircraft overflew them forcing them to turn again. I also spent a lot of time building the mod to increase the trigger radius for career and AQMB AAA.

You could prove it was LOD by taking a task editor mission or career mission (ie _gen.mission) and go into it and increase the distance on the triggers associated with spawning and despawning units. Usually, they are named CLOSER and FURTHER or similar. That way you can be sure the unit has actually spawned and is present in 3D and potentially visible.

If it has and you can see it at the expected distance, then it is a mission design issue not LOD, but you should still report it so the devs get that we want things to spawn when they are further out. Often the dev team (understandably) will pick a smaller radius suitable for the minimum spec PC ie don't spawn too much stuff all at once near the player for performance reasons.

I think this thread is about objects that pop up and are not dynamically spawned by triggers, but instead appear based on a given distance - not long enough.

Ah ok sorry. I thought Yoyo was talking about units like vehicles etc that would generally be activated by triggers for performance reasons in the stock missions in game.

If this is related, then yes, that's exactly what I meant. If it works with a trigger, then it could and should be a separate topic, for example, titled: "Increased spawn radius for units targeted by missions."

@Avimimus Please, could you split this topic into two separate threads in this current corner? Thank you.

However, this also applies to targets, even in Quick Mission and Career, so I'm not sure if it's actually a trigger and radius issue, or just a matter of objects spawning later. In this situation, even zooming doesn't help, even though you're already relatively close. Of course, the requirement is a low LOD that doesn't affect performance.

For sure they are in multiplayer missions and in think also in one available scripted campaign but not  in career.
