LuftManu Posted August 17 Posted August 17 How far can we push IL-2 Series: Korea? While I continue looking for new ways to improve the simulator’s performance in VR, I’m also pushing its limits as far as possible on a monitor. I recorded part of this test in 8K (7680×4320), which means 33.18 million pixels per frame. To put that into perspective, 4K is 8.29 million pixels. With more than 33 million pixels being rendered, even the 32 GB of VRAM on the RTX 5090 starts to become a limiting factor, and that’s with the card modified with an 800 W BIOS. What’s interesting is that this resolution gets us into a similar pixel range to some high-resolution VR headsets. After tweaking different parameters, using my configuration app, Smooth Motion, and a few other tricks, I managed to get the simulator running at 100 FPS. Hopefully, one day we’ll be able to bring this level of performance to VR but 8K is "doable" at max. A few options and it will be 100% viable too. I'm currently experimenting with Smooth motion in VR with some friends. 1 Rig: RTX 5090 ASUS TUF / Ryzen 9850 X3D /Gigabyte X870E Pro X3D Motherboard / 48 GB DDR5 Teamgroup 8000 MT/s / MSI 321 URX QD-OLED 32" 4K

Thankfully, Smooht motion works good in Korea paired with DLSS on screen. VR is another thing. And 5090 is not cheap! 😞 Rig: RTX 5090 ASUS TUF / Ryzen 9850 X3D /Gigabyte X870E Pro X3D Motherboard / 48 GB DDR5 Teamgroup 8000 MT/s / MSI 321 URX QD-OLED 32" 4K

Justicier10-7 Posted August 17 Posted August 17 (edited) Crazy to think about the cost of video cards like this... the 5090's cost as much as my first two motorcycles *combined*... and it still can't do what many VR gamers want it to. It'll be interesting to see how computer hardware architecture is going to have to change going forward... and how much the cost will change as a result. I do wonder since I haven't tried VR before, if your vision isn't 20/20 or better, how noticeable is it to go from 4k VR to 8k VR? Isn't the wearer's eyesight a limiting factor? Aapje Posted August 17 Posted August 17 Unfortunately rate of improvement of chips is slowing down, so the future is to pay more for fewer gains.

The age of affordable PC building is over. The market share for PC's was around 35% as of last January, a rate which it held fairly steady at for 40+ years. That market share has since fallen to less than 3%, and it is expected to continue to fall until the market ceases to exist altogether. The number of companies that make simple components like fans, cabling, cases, brackets, shields, mag filters, coolers etc. that have either shuttered completely or dramatically reduced production is staggering. The peripheral side of the house is in even worse shape. Jensen (Nvidia) has stated that they're moving away from the consumer market completely and transitioning to CIT production only. AMD is following suite, though the level at which they're going to dedicate to CIT is unknown. They're all entering a closed loop system, that's the future. So, the PC you have now is more than likely what you're stuck with until it s@#t's the bed. Unless you have copious amounts of disposable income to spend on an ever diminishing hardware supply and its heavily reduced consumer market. And then, well, that's when you're forced into their new ecosystem where you rent a 'box' and pay for a subscription that streams games to you on your rented router/modem and rented TV or monitor. I'm not joking, there isn't any hyperbole there, this is their stated intention and the future they are implementing right now. Go watch the key notes by the likes of Jensen Huang, Lisa Su, Samson Hu, Zuckerberg, Ellison etc. during GTC, GDC, Computex. You'll own nothing and be happy. 1 9800X3D OC/UV 5.5GHz | Kingston Fury 128GB 7500MT | ROG Strix B850F | Samsung 990Pro w/HS R7400 | ASR 9070XT OC/UV 3300MHz | Antec Flux Pro
