FuriousMeow Posted August 10 Posted August 10 (edited) I posted this as a bug for Korea but just did some strafing in GB and its happening there too, but I don't recall it always being this way. Basically shoot .50s, easiest to test, at the ground and eventually the ground strike sprites stop displaying. They'll eventually start displaying again. I was pretty sure in GB the ground strike sprites would keep displaying as long as rounds were striking the dirt/water/object and so thought this was a Korea issue but I'm seeing this in both. Is it the same for everyone else? Or is this just somehow impacting me? Which I don't do mods or any custom anything so not sure what would cause it on just my end. Just basically a sanity check, do the ground hit effects stop displaying after a bit for everyone else in GB and/or Korea or is this an issue on my end? I didn't want to post this in another topic if this is just my end, but also not sure where else to put this. Edited August 11 by FuriousMeow 1
Remontti Posted August 11 Posted August 11 Yes, same thing here. Had it in GB too. I always tought it is an engine limitation. I barely notice it in real missions but when fooling around in free flight it is more noticeable. 1
Husar Posted August 11 Posted August 11 I'm waiting for a new VFX overhaul , hope they fix some issues and make strafing more immersive. 1
Dash,Polder Posted August 11 Posted August 11 Did you try setting security exclusions to the game folder, because every new texture introduced automatically is security scanned by win 11, that is most likely your problem source. And if that is the case, they can't fix that.

It's either a game engine limitation carried over from GB — but that was always used as an excuse, and a new project should have overcome those limitations — or these are simply bugs carried over from the GB code that still haven't been fixed. Unfortunately, there are many examples of identical issues.
Dash,Polder Posted August 11 Posted August 11 Not on my end, I have no such stutters, it's silky smooth with no disappearing sprites. Don't think I'm alone in this. 1
FuriousMeow Posted August 11 Author Posted August 11 I don't have stutters. And its a long shot into the ground, not a quick burst - like a couple seconds and after a bit the ground effects stop while tracers continue to hit/bounce. By then I usually have to pull back up, so the next time I begin shooting the ground hit effects display again. A quick burst/normal gun pass isn't going to show this.

Perhaps the engine only provides an impact 'dust' effect where the bullet stops, and if the angle is low enough that the bullet ricochets, then the intermediate impact isn't shown?
FuriousMeow Posted August 11 Author Posted August 11 I'll try to get a video of it. Its very odd, like the angle of attack isn't changing much between start and finish. Also, I've been at a lower angle of attack to the ground after the last effect rendered when they began rendering again. Plus the ground hit effects are no longer rendered when shooting and not seeing the effects so it's not based on x number of effects then stop rendering until previous effects de-renders. It seems like there's a window of time where the effects start to render, then stop for whatever reason, no period of rendering, then render again. So its not related to the number of effects being rendered which is even stranger. I've also burst fire after the effect stops rendering and the effects don't start rendering until some time later like there's a reset timer for some reason. I'll see what I can get to record, maybe enable nvidia overlay this evening. Korea and GB folders are both added to exclusions, but doesn't make sense that would interfere with effects rendering.
FuriousMeow Posted August 11 Author Posted August 11 Here's a link to a GB test I just did, you can see the sprites/hit effects then they just stop, then start up again and I almost hit the ground. https://tinyurl.com/3c2mdbzy Its the same in Korea, although it seems to "recover" faster in GB. Something I'm not sure about, but the effects seemed to return faster/quicker when I nosed down which is odd.
FuriousMeow Posted August 11 Author Posted August 11 Here's from Korea. It was more of a pain to get a video with Korea. nVidia overlay is not very responsive - so that's why you see me go the to menu to end the mission because the nVidia commands weren't working, and does not record any video with HDR enabled at Windows level. https://tinyurl.com/4yw534sw 1
Felipe_Czar Posted August 13 Posted August 13 @FuriousMeow I have never seen this issue before. I play GB/BoX since its early access in 2014 and ground strafing is a constant entertainment of mine in that sim. Does this issue happens in 16:9 resolution? Just curious as I never played it outside 16:9, and screen aspect ratio can mess with 3D rendering including sprites.
FuriousMeow Posted August 13 Author Posted August 13 @Felipe_Czar I am running 21:9 Ultrawide 3440x1440. Changed rez to 2560x1440 16:9 but unfortunately no change in the sprite display. Good idea though!

I had to test it out and it turns out I also have this issue on both titles, Korea and BoX too! 😯 I have never noticed it while making short bursts at strafing all these years. ... I pulled the trigger longer than I'm used to and I can see exactly what you have on the videos you posted. No mods on my end. I bet it is some bug or an unwanted limitation long forgotten on creating those effects on the ground. I don't think it is intentional in this day and age. The hardware we have might handle these effects from multiple strafing happening if it is a performance saving method implemented. You're not alone dude XD
