GiftGruen Posted August 9 Posted August 9 I assume that I am not the first one with this kind of experience, however, will tell my mission story and am interesred in your thoughts and feedback. After reaching sufficient VR perfomance now and getting friend to my Mig15, I gave career mode a look and try to get a feeling for the less technical, more game-fun-aspects. First of all: this new career mode is absolutely great. Of course I hope that future releases will allow to start as a junior pilot but already now … whow! Started a patrol mission, we are six Migs, nothing above clouds so I decided to go to deck. Flight members followed me - fine. Here they are, some 84s covered by 80s. Let‘s go. How can I say ? The 84-AIs flew like turkeys, I could pick them like apples from a tree. After killing two ( ah … ammo empty, I am not yet good with this Mig15 hand grenades ) without beeing disturbed by fighter cover, I curved around a little and tried ( without success ) to motivate my 5 flight members to shutdown something. Well… Covering 80s drew circles in the sky but also had no real motivation to attack us. At least it looked like this … Beeing bored now, I turned homewards and told my buddys to follow home. TacTacTac - I really forgot that there are enemy fighters. Mig in flames, me jumping over enemy territory. I didnt want to cheat so ended the flight. To my surprise: without ending as a PoW. Career just goes on… Hmmmm… Yes. I had some fun. AI feels dumb, let it be friend, let it be enemy. At least they goT me in the end, but that was rather my sleepyness … 1 Rig - RTX5090 + i5-14600KF + Pimax Dream Air Content - Flying Circus 1-4 + IL2-BoX ( all sceneries ) + IL2-Korea
Viking1 Posted August 9 Posted August 9 Ha, we lulled you into a false sense of security then jumped up your ass - learned your lesson and survived you did heh heh Its great to see there are some surprises. I flew a scramble yesterday against IL-10s and based on my experiences in Task Editor I thought piece of cake. Tried to line up the first guy and he kept sliding out of my sights. Got closer and he hit the flaps and turned inside me. Took me a full 30 seconds to get him in my sights again. And man they are hard to kill. Eventually got two of them but was down to zero ammo. One on one can have some fun but wing and squad AI is still very weak. But lets see where it goes eh?
Husar Posted August 10 Posted August 10 In GB, the Il-2 is a true flying tank. Even 20 mm cannons often aren't enough to bring it down, giving it great survivability in multiplayer. In Korea, it's much easier to shoot down. 1
KC23 Posted August 12 Posted August 12 I've watched a ton of Korea IL2 YouTube stuff, and it seems the command "continue with mission" is used a lot to get AI wingmen to engage. I could be wrong, but I think it's worth a try to "wake up your AI.
pr0x Posted August 13 Posted August 13 (edited) The AI seems very weak in career mode compared to task editor missions for some reason. I think that there is maybe some kind of skill increase as you progress in the career, or that they are simply hardcoded to hold back. Generally speaking though, jets seems to have issues with overshooting targets and managing their speed, which is why you frequently see them simply flying around each other without firing. Oddly enough, they seem to have more problems with props than with other jets. Edited August 13 by pr0x 1
Viking1 Posted August 13 Posted August 13 (edited) Ive been waiting to see enemies scramble when I approach on an airfield strike mission at around 10% into my career. Yesterday saw a couple getting off quite late then today a pair of La-11s scrambled as I was on my attack run. Ha bad timing for them. Wounded the guy just lifting off then killed the guy in the air then came around and dropped a pair of hard bombs in the sheltered parking. My section did a nice job after that.. very fun mission.
