wikipedia states that some people indeed used J instead of I, interesting.

Older German forms of handwriting often have a capital I that looks a bit like a J, although it is not actually the same character. For example:

Well, that's why I also included a second picture taken during or right after the war. 🙂

I see that earlier it was reported that Fw-190 Tac codes were disappearing under damage, but there are also some number of other things where this is happening. When the aircraft takes (unrelated) damage, I have seen the following disappear:

Albatros DII iron sights 

Albatros DII anemometer

Fokker EIII anemometer

IL2 nav lights (the on ones, specifically)

The propeller on the DH.4 either rotates the wrong way or has an incorrect blade pitch. When operating, it pushes air forward instead of backward.

На истребителях Як (1-69, 1-127) просвечивают нервюры крыла. На Як-3 просвечивают шпангоуты хвоста.

Обе проблемы наблюдаются под острым углом относительно источника света.
Настройки графики: тени "средние", текстуры "высокие". При приближении (зуме в 30 градусов вместо обзора в 105) тени слегка уменьшаются в размере.

Firing the machine guns on Bf109G6AS also shows smoke effect coming from propeller hub (just smoke no muzzle blast effect).

In Battle of Moscow career, BF-109E7s have triangle and a letter in the opposite place. 

As you know, letter should be in front of the cross and triangle behind it.  On Stalingrad map it is correct though. 

 

EDIT: After looking at various JABO pictures...it can be correct?  On some photos are triangles in front of the cross. I always thought that triangle is equivalent of a gruppe mark. Nevermind then...

Schlacht markings are an exercise in frustration. 🙂 But yes, according to my (extensive) research, this is correct for the unit and time period.

The aileron trim indicator seems to be working in reverse in both P-47s. Trimming aileron right works correctly, the knob also turns into the correct direction, but the indicator next to the trim controls will indicate towards the left instead, for example.
