flight formations and AI attacking ground targets make no sense..........

no matter what you assign your flight in comms they all fly behind you stretched out behind or above you, Does not matter if you select wedge and tight or far. makes no difference, The also do not fly in a diagonal line to the left or right of you when ordered into echelon formations..... the formation options should make sense and ai wingmen should obey and fly the formation you order them too. They seldom do.

They also do not attack targets in plain sight below more than half the time you tell them too and there is no option to ask them to attack bridges on missions to destroy bridges either.

I get AI wingmen reporting quite often that there are no targets despite having visual on them and all of us orbiting above them which makes them often useless or results in the mission being failed in careers.

Hi! We'll check out the formations commands. When commanding formation change you need to lower throttle, so wingman could reach their places, if throttle is 100% there could be problems with that.
Try giving "On Your Six" command and then command attack the ground targets, should work better.

@Regingrave, please also check how they change formation please. I have, by the way, have may group change formation without issue (this in 4b) but did notice that ordering the same formation to take greater spacing they start to move about and swerve all around instead of simply extending their spacing. Saw this happen for all formation types (again in 4b).

I always cruise at about 70% power I never do 100 unless emergency or lifting off a ground pass. That said my more serious issues are the flight not attacking targets and the crashing. Thanks for looking into it.

I noticed that too.

I had a railyard mission in current career and I ended up having to attack on my own because my whole 8 plane flight just orbited instead of attacking the trains and rail yard I ordered them too. They did do much of anything at all except 2 wingmen crashed.

I was orbiting right over the target, dozens of targets in plain sight and the AI flight would do nothing at all. This is pretty broken

There is also a problem with the radio command to attack trains, the command reads back that they will attack ships then it says ",trains"  The AI friendly flight is not doing what they should. They also do not acknowledge that they have spotted or are attacking targets. It would be realistic and very helpful if they reported that they are following an order or are on an attack run.

I only fly careers and there is often a habit of people testing these bugs in single missions which does not apply to the way careers handle these things. The AI would act differently from the career mode which is not going to uncover the problem (this was also a case of bug research in the older sims in series). These problems lay in the career mode so please troubleshoot in this specific area of the sim. I do not fly anything but careers and campaigns. Files attached.

The career of Arnold Franklin has the railyard mission but I have these issues with most ground targets..

My new career file is attached this is all on the current .03 patch. I will try on "on your six command" but honestly they should be acting on their own when ordered to hit targets below of a certain type. They really should not have to follow me down.

Another important issue is that there isn't option of right and left hand formation with flights. Only wedge formation (like left hand) but the positions of number 2 and 3 are incorrect.

What exact order did you issue? Seems working for me with Tab - 7 - 1 - 1 - 3 - 6 - 1 (Attack trains by your own) and  Tab - 7 - 1 - 1 - 3 - 5 - 1 (Attack armor by your own), first they've bombed the train destroying some platforms (but strangely noone got the train engine — should be a priority target) and then the rest bombed the armor, destroying some T-34s.
Can you please try to re-run this mission? You can make it into a singleplayer scenario by changing mission type to 0 in your text file.

Did wingmen crashed into ground themselves, or did they suffer from AA fire? I see that there are some nasty cannons that took out some of the escorts and my wingmen too.
