An Old Newb with IL-2 1946?

I haven't played IL-2 1946 in several years, it's not even loaded on my new computer (Windows 11). My new computer doesn't have a CD/DVD drive so I guess my best option to download it is thru Steam. Will IL-2 (v4.12.2) work with Windows 11? 

Once downloaded I wanted to Mod the game, but I kind of remember that some/all Mods only work up to a specific version (e.g. 4.14a). Is that accurate and which version do I need? 

Do I need to have multiple versions/folders of the game installed to run the different Mods or will one C:/Games/il2-1946 folder work?

You don't need to do a fresh install.

Just copy the old game folder to the new PC

In order to MOD, go to SAS web and download the las version
