Majakowski Posted August 2 Posted August 2 Hello new forum ๐ after a long time I have reactivated my interest in Il2 and got myself some more into the mission editor again and I currently overcome my earlier inhibitions I had because of the bare bones nature of the editor functionalities. That being said, I like flying more than being shot down and thus contemplated scenarios that don't necessarily involve combat but rather some atmospheric elements. For example yesterday and today I made a mission where the player follows an instructor plane that leads him to certain airfields that function as shooting ranges for ground attack training. The instructor plane then flares as order to conduct the exercise, turns away to an orbiting/observing waypoint and the player has to overfly ground staff within close proximity clearing him for his attack runs, again via a flare. As soon as the targets are considered destroyed, the player is signalled by ground staff accordingly, the instructor plane comes back for the player to follow him to the next range with another exercise. Maybe it's just me but I really like the interactions and the slightly "bureaucratic" nature of this. I want to do similar things for navigation (or map familiarization) training, having random elements so you can play the mission again and again and getting different goals to achieve or just different waypoints. Same for reconnaissance or spotting missions to train the pilot's ability to see small targets on the ground and get evaluated on whether you have spotted all of them. So essentially my favourite kind of flying is all the utility and auxiliary stuff. Do you guys have interest in this kind of stuff or would you find it rather boring? 1 2
Deacon352nd Posted August 3 Posted August 3 Put up a link for these mission so my group can evaluate them and then we can report back to you. They sound very interesting and we can always use more training. Thanks for your efforts in making the missions.ย
hschuit Posted August 3 Posted August 3 (edited) I am interested in Korea training missions, thanks for your effort ! Henk. Edited August 3 by hschuit -
Majakowski Posted August 3 Author Posted August 3 Sadly not Korea but a wild mix of other modules ๐ย The current mission I upload here uses the Sopwith Strutter on the Leningrad map (this has entirely aesthetic reasons). Description: There are two airfields dedicated as target ranges, on one edge of these fields there is an open vehicle, a personal car (for lack of a better word). Placed on the runway is one or multiple trucks, this is the target. If you spot a moving vehicle, this is not a target but rather the crew, having just prepared the target for you, don't shoot them if possible, they just want to help you. On the starting airfield the instructor is in the plane to the right of you, after take-off, simply follow him and wait for him to flare your signal to attack. Next: overfly the personal vehicle at the airfield edge within 10 meters and wait for their flare signalling your instruction to conduct the attack. After the truck on the runway is considered destroyed, another flare from the staff vehicle will signal your success so keep an eye on them. Gain altitude again and wait for your instructor to return, follow him to the next waypoint and repeat the procedure. After that, follow him back to the home airfield and land your plane.ย GroundAttackTraining.zip 1
Gutholz Posted August 4 Posted August 4 sounds interesting, just posting so that I will remember to try it ๐
