Crash / Black Screen When Restarting Career Mission

It happens like clockwork and has been reproduced every time I try it. Simply restarting the mission (F-86 career mission 1) will take me back to the map screen, but once I start the mission again I get a black screen where I'm eventually prompted to force quit the application. I have left it sitting for a half hour to ensure it's not just a loading issue. 

Related, I get random mid-mission crashes to desktop but I haven't determined any particular cause there. Thank you.
