Dont wanna sound like a fanboy but...

I have been absolutely floored by the level of detail in destruction in this game. Hatches open on vehicles from crew jumping out, trees knocked down, the pressurized crew tube in the b-29 being visible as part of the damage model, etc...I know so many times the destruction is just an afterthought of non playable vehicles and animations but this has been a knockout for me. I came back after about 5 years and I bought the Normandy expansion along with the founders edition of this and I dont even wanna fire up BOS anymore. Just my .02...

check this out:

got hit in one of the fuel tanks, in my Mustang. looking back, i was leaving a trail of fuel. After a while, once the tank got dry, the leak was gone.

@AndreiTomescu Same thing happened to me yesterday in my F-51. I checked the fuel gauge, and it read 50%. So, I don't think the leak stop due to the tank being empty. Mybe, it stopped due to self-sealing tanks.

its the little things like all this that really set it apart from others and older versions. Every time I fire up this sim I am blown away by something and its not just the migs blowing me away 🙂

I've used BoS over the last two weeks to set up my simrig, dial in my declanpro and shake off my flight rust. Once Korea drops on Steam i'll be freeing up that m.2 space for Korea!

You can set the external gas canisters on a soviet tank on fire by strafing them. They can fall off burning, and the tank might still survive.

It's so good.

Imho, this seems like a masterpiece in the making. I know it'll have its bugs to work out, but I'm locked into this sim.

This group management game. a hole game build into the game. once you get the ropes of it, it quite immersive!

you'll get eventually to have your favorite pilots, and as the time passes by, you'll notice that some pilots are much better than others. so i have a "performance" flight, a black flight, even a hispano flight !

Noticed that the more courageous pilots are getting wounded and killed more often !

5 years of flight rust has definitely shown through. I have gotten caught in turn and burn fights in energy fighters far too often. I agree with the masterpiece in the making. buggy yes but, ultimately this is a huge step forward in combat sims. Commander mode is absolutely insane. I   spent a few hours in it yesterday, didnt fly a single mission myself but, my squadron was kicking butt on the front!!

My best pilots got the worst of it!

Pena is dead, and Scibetta got badly wounded.

The hole group is mourning this losses, and the hard worked commander, more that everyone.

It is time for the newcomers to get into action.

My all black flight got his promising leader also hospitalised. Put a good white guy in charge, but that's not working as intended: racial friction affects squadron efficiency.

With 5 planes on repair, we're also short on material.

Seoul's runway is much worse than K-17's, with bumps that take a toll on the newbies.

The reds incursions towards Seoul bring the fight uncomfortably closer to the runways.

The deathtoll rose to 6 pilots killed in just a month of operations.

This is immersion.....

First, the self-sealing lining of the tanks does seal small puncture holes.
Second, when a tank is hit, it is (probabilistically) determined whether the puncture is in the "bottom" or the "side wall" of the tank. Accordingly, if the puncture is in the bottom, the tank will drain completely; if it is in the side wall, it will leak only down to the level of the hole. Yes, it's a probabilistic calculation, but still.
Аnd the rate of leakage through each hole depends on its diameter and the fuel level above it. More fuel means greater hydrostatic pressure — and a higher leakage rate.

Totally loving the uneven airfield surfaces and short field take-offs & landing challenges.

Are the fueltanks separately modelled? Means a hole in the right wing tank only empty the right wing tank? A hole in the fuselage tank only empty the fuselage tank , etc..?

Yes, definitely so. I've tested this (unwilling, true, but still) with happy holes from light flak, heavy flak, combined, and so.

Having the fuel dispersed in several tanks is a true life saver.

The hole fuel tanks modelling (at least for Mustangs) is incredible well and detailed done.

See lead engineer Gavrick's post.

If there is one little issue, or maybe I don't understand how it works, is that if you fast travel, the fuel consumption goes on Eco mode 🙂 . Hybrid engine.

Or the engine management is much better on "auto" ?

thats another awesome feature! The damage modeling on your plane and  other air/ground targets is quite remarkable!

There may be some interesting nuances here. For example, on the F‑80, all fuel from the wing is forcibly transferred to the central tank, and from there it feeds the engine.
However, a bypass around this tank was also provided — if the central tank was holed, once it ran dry, you could shut off the feed to it and supply fuel from the wing tanks directly to the engine.
And this is modeled. Currently (at least that's the intention), if the central tank is punctured and empties, the inlet to it is automatically shut off, and if any fuel remains in the wing tanks, it will go around the central tank.
In the future, I very much hope, control of the valves and pumps will not only be "automatic", but also accessible to the player.

Would be a shame to have it modelled but inaccessible.

Thanks for the kind words.

Release version will also have multiple improvements in the graphics department that we discussed in the diaries before.

And if you like the game - please don’t hesitate to post a positive review at Steam. We would really appreciate this, as this helps to present the game to more people that could be interested in flight sim genre.

Guys, the devs are quite gentlemen about this.

The truth is disturbing.

Facts: everybody that have tried this early access, are more or less in same heart: despite many, many things that should and will be corrected/improved over time, this game is AWESOME. truly a new and fantastic beast.

Web reality: there is stupidity, hate and lack of intelligence, enough of those as to be unable to differentiate from nationality, politics and a software product.

Don't agree? Please read steam, reddit and other places where some people have opinions about things more or less they've got into contact with.

Example: some person raised a thread on reddit about how this game's hardware is insane. His own conclusion?? That despite him having specs way, way below published min specs, he WAS ABLE TO RUN THE GAME.

Many thanks to @ShamrockOneFive, who politely and wisely countered this.

Still, the thread was a negative one. Really?? And all search engines found this.

I was really, really mad.

I mean, i'm no developer, I have no game into this, but I truly appreciate and BENEFIT from this product.

It's not my baby, but it's good and I need it for my own pleasure.

For some #!##%&!!##s to make those statements, and bring doubt and shadow upon this guys hard work and MY beloved time spent into the game, well, that makes my half east European, half Hungarian blood boil!

Conclusion:

If you like Pina Colada and get caught in the rain.....

If you like this game....

Don't let some paid/just stupid persons thrash/downvote this game for reasons that have no connection with the actual game.

Past and present history is NOT about this software product.

You know better , guys.....

couldnt agree more with the above post. There are always going to be those that hate but for those of us who have been around since IL-2 was released back in the early 2000s and beyond, we know how much of a leap forward this is in combat sims compared to even BOS Normandy.

I can only agree with the stuff posted here.
Me and my buddy from our (sadly somewhat disbanded) squadron have such a blast with the game. Spotting is still challenging (but still a lot more dynamic/better) than in GB. I still get jumped by enemies - despite looking- and have a sixth sense for finding any sort of friendlies xD But I guess that's my superpower.^^ But despite this I really enjoy the environment. Just looking at the Korean map and all the objects in it (or god-damn museum with its tons of information) is just telling how much love for details went into the project.

Also, the performance is really awesome in multiplayer (and single-player) when you consider how many aircraft there are. Intercepting 30+ B-29s didn't put a dent on my performance on Combat Box or Parallel 38 and while the Black Thursday Mission (pre-release - didn't test it yet again) was still demanding - it was still like close to 100 aircraft in the close vicinity to each other without becoming a complete stop-motion game. I remember when flying on GB MP with around 10+ twin engine bombers and 10–15 escorts (all piloted by humans) and the game was essentially rubber banding planes back and forth or starting to become really slow.

I also tried the career and enjoy it a lot - it's definitely an upgrade to the GB career - but still needs some refining (especially in the AI department - still an improvement but not good enough). I'm really looking forward to future additions and fixes this game will receive, and I'm positively surprised that this entire topic of the Korean War caught my interest so much - thank you!  I can only imagine what we will fly in the future and what will be possible.
