Valis Posted July 29 Posted July 29 I'd prefer to spot, or have my flight spot, targets by myself and only then order them into battle. But currently my virtual commander issues the attack order automatically. Very annoying.
Viking1 Posted July 29 Posted July 29 Are you sure thats you and not another flight? I ask because I hear radio chatter from other flights in the AO. And I havent noticed my guys engaging before I give an order.
AndreiTomescu Posted July 29 Posted July 29 it's not you ordering them to engage, it's the radio controller. Can't make that guy shut up. BUT! your orders afterwards will override his commands.

In the flight pictured there was just me and a wingman. 1 minute ago, AndreiTomescu said: it's not you ordering them to engage, it's the radio controller. Can't make that guy shut up. I have noticed that sometimes is airborne (sooo cool) on the map, if you have icons on, you can see him with a dotted circle around. And he's bossing everybody around..... 🙂 Guess it's the same entity you talk to via radio, asking for stuff. Like bearing , air contacts, etc Same voice, yep, but I guess having AI generated voices now, this will change. Guess you guys are missing those different voices from GB's scripted campaigns. Like Ruspoli at the gates of Odessa?? 😉 well, you hsve no idea how many hrs it took for several people to do that. Guess the AI won't do it better , but much more , diverse and .....faster 1
Valis Posted July 29 Author Posted July 29 I've done campaign missions with an FAC (a lone F-51 - sadly not a T-6) but they always identify themselves on the radio e.g. "Charlie, Red 1, go and do this..." If a radio call begins with 'Red 1' then I assume 'I' am the one saying it.

The voices all sounding the same was making this harder, Edited July 29 by Viking1
AndreiTomescu Posted July 29 Posted July 29 (edited) 1 hour ago, Viking1 said: I havent noticed my guys engaging before I give an order. They do, but only upon the mission objective. As you approach, the FAC gives the order to engage. If let's say, on the way back, you stumble upon another potential target, even if you cross it right near, your wingman won't charge, unless you order them to. Edited July 29 by AndreiTomescu
AndreiTomescu Posted July 29 Posted July 29 34 minutes ago, Valis said: If a radio call begins with 'Red 1' then I assume 'I' am the one saying it. Nope, actually. Red 1 means you. They identify the target of their information. Then the info. Their identity is implied. I dunno if it's really authentic, my guess is that it should have been like this: " Red 1 (player) this is XRay (controller). Engage ground targets at will (go die, you stupid mincemeat) "🙂 🙂 When you are saying something is like this: "Group, return to base" or "Red 2, follow me" So your identity is also assumed, the ID also refers to the target of the order. I dunno if it's actually historical accurate. I mean, they are acting like a wife: identity obivious......the rest are orders..... 🙂
Valis Posted July 30 Author Posted July 30 Here's an example of not being in control. Inbound to the target I get a radio message from the aether - 'Red, search for ground targets on your own, over' My flight then proceeds to attack the target without any input from me, the flight leader. That's a problem. It might be a concession for those players who don't want to worry about managing their flight, and that's fair enough. But it should be optional. I should be able to direct the attack using the radio commands already available, instead of try to manage everything after my flight have gone all 'Leeroy Jenkins' on me.
AndreiTomescu Posted July 30 Posted July 30 (edited) 1 hour ago, Valis said: Red, search for ground targets on your own Yes, indeed. Red=your hole flight Search for..... = order for..... On your own = not an exactly specified target, and the individual guys from your flight are allowed to break formation and attack each on its own This is command order, from controller/HQ, so it's higher than you (Red1). But if you want to organise the attack, for example, if you give specific orders right after, it gonna work. Please notice that usually this order from HQ comes rather early, when you still have 4+ miles from target. What i do: 1. Before that guy bosses around with my sheep's weak AI mind 🙂 , i order them to tighten formation. 2. Once "Red......on your own" is given i order them to rejoin formation - forgot the exact command, it sounds different- and then order them to attack For some it works, but usually there are 1-2 that do not 3. the "do like me" order also works. From what I've seen, letting them follow the HQ order in ground work is more effective and reliable that ordering them around. Note: In aifield strike, after the first pass, if the flak is hardcore, I rather choose to call out the attack, no matter the outcome, than see half of them sent to kingdom come. So I break away and low, order them to follow, and they really obey, as come asap. This was not the case in GB. Edited July 30 by AndreiTomescu

It's been noted but for now it's staying as-is, as the alternative is masses of reports from players saying their flight does nothing when they show up over the target. 🙂
