It seems difficult to get these jets going at their max speeds. Am I doing something wrong?

I have been messing around with the MiG and Sabre and to get at the max speed takes a good while and takes a dive.  I am apparently mistaken in my thoughts that I would easily be zipping around at 700+ MPH/ 1125 KmPH.  In the 500+ MPH seems more likely.  Am I doing something wrong?

Parasitic drag becomes a much larger factor at the higher end speeds.  To reach your maximum potential speed for throttle, trim, and flight condition of the jet you need to unload it.  Just go under 1 G and hold it for a second or two and you'll dump most of the parasitic drag enabling you to reach your maximum.

Or you can keep your JATO's and punch it in the arse on a straight line with wing leveler on when your already at the wall, dump them soon as they're out.  You'll hold max speed so long as you keep level and trimmed.

IAS, TAS? At which altitude? Maximum speeds are usually given in TAS at quite high altitudes, e.g. 15,000, so the question is about the test conditions.
