The airfields in the demo missions are superbly done.  I am very impressed.
I was wondering if all airfields will (eventually) be made available at this level of detail?

They all are at that level of detail 🙂

That doesn't mean that it doesn't require some effort to make them feel more alive though. For performance reasons, moving objects as well as some of the small clutter require manual placement by the mission creator.

Also as the front line moves, the static aircraft and static objects have to be changed. Most of the airfield static objects are set up to have jets on them with disassembled and static jets, drop tanks, etc. It is a good start, but yes, they do have to be adjusted a good bit. The aircraft on the airfields north of the 38th parallel area have Eastern Block static planes on them. Also they are populated for 1951 and later so earlier missions require a fairly major overhaul. And then there is damage from having 3 invasions back and forth across them that has to be added.

Just wondering: is it possible to share a set of objects that are placed on an airfield? Then people who want to use an airfield in their mission could import that, which would save a lot of time.

There are group objects named airfields in the game files. I'm not a mission maker, just educated guess that custom can be saved and shared.

Yes, that is certainly an option

In game, there are 3 sets of objects for each of the airfields. There is the airfield which is buildings and some static objects. There are also "ambient" objects and static aircraft under different sub groupings.

You know I was thinking mainly of the dynamic details such as taxi maps, signal flares, and landing lights, not so much all of the cool static details and airfield life.
I 100% get that the parked aircraft are dependent on what and where the front is, but I don't like the idea of recreating the wheel if efforts have already been made on some of the more basic yet tedious functions.

The easiest way to have those created for you is to start a career at the airfield you want to use, and then save the .mis file. Then you can open it in the mission editor, copy the airfield, taxi path and other infrastructure from that file. Depending on the mission, there may be more than 1 friendly or enemy airfield in it
