Hi all,

Been playing Sturmovik for a long time, but only just bought 'Tank Crew'
I am seriously impressed with this product.
I have one problem, and sadly it's killing my immersion...

I am getting artifacts, to be exact, a grid pattern appearing in some trees.

I have found one example of this from 2016, but no answers - https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/22172-graphics-glitch/

I have updated/backdated driver version, experimented with FXAA/MSAA in/out of the game. Also have tried different DX LOD bias via Nvidia Inspector as well as sharpening.

Hopefully someone else has had similar and fixed it.
Thanks for any thoughts or advice,

Steve

Yes there is a fix of sorts. A small file called dither is the reason for the regular pattern of transparent hole in the trees. Using one that has a randomized pattern makes it a bit less noticeable. It needs to be located in Data\Graphics\Textures.

I have noticed this dither in trees near horizon, it's a old form of optimization.

Thank you so much for your replies and help guys!

I have tried the supplied file and it has made improvements (I think!!) Thank you!
Here is a screen (cropped, I haven't got a crazy screen size) captured after using your dither file, it's not game breaking, but sure is immersion killing.

I'm running at 1080, but could up the resolution if needed, helpful?

Any other thoughts as to what could be done? I use Nvidia Inspector.

Thanks again for the help, I'd love to get Tank Crew running like a dream.

Steve

(Edit) As a test I removed the dither file entirely and started game, same issue.

If anyone has similar issues - here's what solved it for myself.

Hopefully it will help.

SGSS does work with dx11/12 games?

I was using SGSS  in Dx9 Rise of flight.

BTW  using both FXAA and MSAA ?

Thanks for input Husar.

'SGSS does work with dx11/12 games?' - certainly seems to, or can you advise otherwise?
I found this helpful - '
DirectX 11: Support is sporadic; SGSSAA only functions if the specific game natively implements traditional MSAA. Many DX11 titles have switched to TAA or other methods, rendering SGSSAA ineffective or causing graphical glitches'

I found using both MSAA and FXAA gave me a good look without any performance hitch, would you advise specifically against using both?

The LOD Bias is the true source of my fixed problem I feel.

It's very hard to judge sometimes.
Look forward to your input.

Thanks for your time,

Steve.

The problem with SGSSAA is that it turns some of the effects smoke red-brown! I found that to be even more than annoying so I stopped using SGSSAA.

As you get more into Tank Crew you may be interested in some of the Mods that were developed. Sadly most of them are back on the old website and are hard to search for.

General BoX Mods with some that are helpful for optimizing Tank Crew

Here's something from the new site.
